About Program

Fall into the rhythm of village life in Peru’s Sacred Valley on this high school community service program. During your student travels in Peru, work hand in hand with locals on a meaningful construction project, teach children at an elementary school, learn the traditional methods of weaving from the family next door, and dig into a farm in a community greenhouse, all while you experience the colorful and rich culture of the descendants of the Inca. Throughout the program, visit some of the most iconic sites of the Inca empire as you hike through Pisac, marvel at the overhanging Ollantaytambo, bike through the mountains to Moray, and take the train to Aguas Calientes where you will experience Peru's wonder of the ancient world: Machu Picchu.

Yes, I recommend this program

One of the most amazing growth experiences of my life.

I participated in this program right as I was entering high school. Even though this trip could have meant many different things depending on when I attended, I found that the transition of entering high school was a perfect time. This program afforded me a great summer experience of friendships and exploring a new country, I also got to dig deeper into the culture of Peru, and myself. Throughout the trip, I gained so much self-confidence and individuality. This self-exploration away from the pressures of family, school and friends, forced me to push myself to do things that I never thought I could ever accomplish. From learning how to weave from the villagers to keeping to the land and teaching in the school, Putney's Peru program was definitely the highlight of my summer but arguably one of the best experiences I've ever had.
