Why did you choose this program?

I chose this program because I was able to travel while still completing course requirements with a student teaching internship in a New Zealand school.

What did your program provider assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

My program provider and university assisted me with much of the process. I went through Globalinks so I had an orientation program when I got there, they helped me with housing in Auckland, getting plane tickets, and the visa process. It was extremely, extremely helpful.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

Don't wait to start exploring!! I had some down time once I got to Auckland before I started classes, but I wasn't sure what to do or where to go. Just find a buddy, ask around for some good places to check out, and go for it!!!

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

During the week is classes. I didn't have too much homework in mine, but if I did I got it done during the week. Because I lived in a building with so many international students, we cooked dinner together a lot during the week, and often would grab a drink after classes at the bar on campus.

The weekends were for traveling! I went hiking, to the beach, camping, and did a lot of other awesome stuff with people that I met.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it and/or how did your views on the issue change?

My biggest fear was that I would have trouble making friends with other people. That was not the case at all. Everyone was SO kind, and all the other international students were eager to meet new people and explore the beautiful country of New Zealand!

Is there anything you would have done different?

I would have started traveling within New Zealand earlier! Auckland is a great city but there is SO much to see in New Zealand so I wish I started exploring sooner. I still saw a LOT though!
