Amazing internship abroad experience!

My summer internship in Buenos Aires through Puentes Abroad was a fantastic experience. I felt supported by the Puentes team but was still able to create my own community and life there independently from the program. I interned with TECHO Argentina, a housing non-profit, and am so grateful for the fun, inspiring work there but also my amazing coworkers I got to see day in, day out. I fell in love with the city of Buenos Aires. The art, live music, and fantastic night life was very conducive to meeting new people all the time and swapping stories. I genuinely grew as a person in my time there and I already can't wait to go back!

Pros
  • Expanding Spanish language fluency
  • meeting young people of Argentina
  • becoming comfortable with being on your own and exploring the world around you

GEO and Buenos Aires

I loved the team at GEO. Super flexible, accommodating and supportive to work with. I learned a tremendous amount of Spanish and culture while working.
Amazing experience overall with Puentes and the program. I lived with a host family and was extremely fortunate to live with a whole family close to work. People had different experiences with host living, a lot of people only lived with one older woman and not a whole family. I could also walk to work which was great, but the public transit is convenient too. Prices are affordable especially compared to US. Go to Puentes orientation as they give important info. Night life is fun just take care of your belongings! iPhones are expensive and people will steal them.
10/10 would recommend overall great experience . team at Puentes is fantastic too

Pros
  • Range of Activities in Buenos Aires
  • Easy place to travel from
  • Culture and lifestyle
Cons
  • All Spanish-- so you should want to learn Spanish if you come here
  • Winter during the Summer
  • Safety (just have to be aware 100% of the time)

Weight In Mind Internship

This is my first internship experience, and I am very happy with it. Through this experience, I learnt a lot, including, communicating skills, self-directed working style. For a student who studies Biochemistry, normally I only work with numbers, elements and formulas, so it’s nice to work with actual human beings. The instructors provided me with full support and trust, they gave me a friendly working experience. During the internship, I produced a promotional video for a new product and few posters. I enjoyed this experience. It has a magic balance between overwhelming and challenging.

My Puentes experience

"Puentes Abroad has been fantastic from the beginning of my internship until now. I absolutely loved my internship experience since I was able to gain real-world experience while working on interesting projects. I would strongly recommend Puentes to anyone looking for an internship that includes a distant, international experience as well as professional development workshops and excellent supervision. This experience improved both my personal and professional life."

Thank you so much

Amazing Virtual Experience

I had a fantastic virtual experience with Puentes Abroad with an agricultural consulting internship in Buenos Aires. Puentes staff and programming did a fantastic job with guest speakers, tours, and an all around comprehensive cultural dive into Argentina. In the internship itself, I had immense support from the Puentes team with many check-ins at the beginning, middle, and end of the internship. I was able to come away from the program with new skills, cultural experiences, and a fantastic summer.

What would you improve about this program?
Really wish it was in-person and that we could've traveled. Highly encourage all future participants to take advantage of it.

What is your favorite travel memory?

A travel memory that comes to mind: turning sixteen years old in a small town in Pitlochry, Scotland, surrounded by the warmth of a Scottish and an American family. It was my first time being abroad alone, and I cherish that time so dearly because I now see it as a stepping stone in my journey of intercultural communication.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I joined the Puentes Abroad team back in 2017 and have been proud of my company ever since. Through leadership positions, I have become more empathetic and more patient, My project management abilities have improved. I have learned how to manage my time better, and discovered that it is valuable to make yourself vulnerable.
What is the best story you've heard from a return student?
It has always been rewarding to hear how the Puentes program experience has impacted, confirmed, or changed students’ academic and professional interests and to witness their personal growth.

I can also mention countless anecdotes of students becoming immersed in our culture. For example, student-athletes have trained with local Olympic teams! One student intern was a swimmer and he managed to train with the Argentine Olympic team, and another student was a wrestler and he got to train with the Uruguayan Olympic team.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would go on an immersive trip around Argentina. If I could choose the guiding theme, it would be the fascinating topics of “Economics and Finances in Argentina: A Case Study of a Volatile Market” or “Mental Health and Psychology in “No-Stigma” Argentina”.

With stunning landscapes, intense personalities and passions, and talented professionals across numerous industries, Argentina is the eighth-largest country in the world, and the largest Spanish-speaking nation by area. With European influences and "gaucho" (Argentine cowboy) culture, the country's creative sector of music, arts, cinema, and design is bustling, innovating, and achieving like never before. Argentina is a powerhouse in agriculture and livestock, and it has also produced some of the world's top athletes in soccer, rugby, and polo.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

We are multilingual and multicultural people who are able to flow seamlessly between Spanish and English and between Argentine/Uruguayan and other world cultures.

We are pragmatic optimists who love creative problem solving and embrace curiosity.

We are interested and interesting; we ask questions and listen intently to absorb each person’s story. We are humble and lifelong learners.
What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?
The people.
People who deliberate thoroughly and take action confidently.
People who value open, honest, and clear communication.
People who strive to be proactive, innovative, and constantly improving.
People who value technology as a powerful tool for collaboration and productivity.
People who behold a dynamic and cheerful approach to work, yet who treasure life balance.
