Supportive Immersion Institute

Why choose Supportive Immersion Institute?

We walk along side adolescents, young adults, parents, families, and communities - helping them immerse themselves outside of their comfort zones so they can grow. Supportive Immersion programs and facilitators create and offer structured immersion experiences that connect, empower and facilitate integrative growth through the development of PROPS skills.

Supportive Immersion is a person-centered, process-based approach to transformative experiential learning where the use and development of empathic connecting skills, collaborative empowerment, and process-based scaffolded activities invite non-threatening exposure to integrative growth opportunities, leading to the increase of agency (self-governance) as well as shifts in participants' ways of being in the world.

A one of a kind experience!

The Sustainable Lifestyles class I took in Costa Rica at Veritas was one of my favorite classes I have probably ever taken! It turned out to be l different from what I was expecting, but in a very positive way. This course taught me so much about myself and how I can make the most of the way I live my life. One of my favorite parts about this class is that it was very interactive and engaging. I loved getting to know my peers and sharing what we learned in class and researched on our own. I would recommend this class to everyone!

Pros
  • working on presentation skills
  • field trip included in the class
  • positive feedback from professor and peers
Cons
  • none

Staff goes above and beyond!

The Pathfinder staff goes above and beyond their administrative roles to create deeply personal relationships with participants. Each person I interacted with made a point to get to know me, and I believe that the deeper understanding created was integral to my feeling of belonging. It provided me with a strong support system on top of the local mentor connection and my host family. As a result, their guidance of my introspection and activity/project planning was all the more insightful and helpful to me. I have formed invaluable relationships in Costa Rica, both in and out of the program. This is the first time I have ever experienced such a deep sense of belonging outside of family and long-time friends. I only regret that I couldn't stay longer! But no matter -- what I learned about myself stays with me, and that is the greatest gift that everyone I met through Pathfinder provided me with.

A connecting, reflective, life-changing experience

I took the Sustainable Lifestyles class while studying abroad at Universidad Veritas in San José, Costa Rica. This class taught me so much about myself through learning about how I can implement healthy habits into my lifestyle. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect in taking this class, but it was such a relevant and helpful course to take while being in a new country and trying to figure out how to adjust to everything. My biggest takeaway was realizing that I have the agency to do little things that can make positive changes in my life. I really enjoyed getting to work with my classmates on presentations and have group discussions about our personal takeaways. I have become a more self-aware and compassionate person through the lessons I learned during this class.

Pros
  • the field trip we planned to visit the Bröran indigenous community
  • a positive, safe environment to share our thoughts and listen to others
  • working with classmates
Cons
  • some of the discussions felt rushed
  • writing the healthy lifestyle plan sometimes felt repetitive and tedious
