Truly the best employer I've been with

I'm in my 3rd contract with Flying English, and it's been amazing to be a part of this family. Everyone here is treated with respect, and our opinions are valued. The management here supports us greatly in training, teaching-related matters, and things outside of school, such as sending us supplies and helping with personal matters, ensuring we're all well taken care of during the lockdowns.

From managing the day-to-day, to issues from the covid pandemic, I think their actions speak volumes with regard to their teaching/management philosophy, which translates to improved quality of teaching for the students and a great experience for the teachers. Like many others entering a new country and field, I believe a bad first experience will turn the passion for teaching sour, while a good experience in contrast would provide the energy and fuel to continue forward. And Flying English definitely belongs in the latter half here. My overall experience here is nothing short of excellent, and I highly recommend this school, especially for those looking for new beginnings teaching English in Shanghai.

Pros
  • Excellent relationship between teachers, management and staff
  • Great training and support for both teaching related and personal matters
  • Room to achieve good balance between work and life

Best first job

I enjoyed the TEFL course a lot. I met great friends, learnt a lot which I was able to easily put into practice once I had a job. I was able to find a job immediately after finishing the course. I still have all the materials which have been useful throughout the two plus years I ended up staying in Shanghai. The course leaders were friendly and available to answer any questions I had regarding Shanghai, teaching or the course itself. I’d definitely recommend to any friends that were thinking of coming to Shanghai in the future.

Great place to work in an amazing city!

This is a great company that offers competitive pay,but best of all a warm, familial working environment. Most of the staff are friends and there is a small divide between Chinese and foreign staff. There is also great support from the owners both professionally and personally, as they understand the difficulties of being a foreigner. The class sizes are small and you have the opportunity to work with the same students for quite some time. You also have the opportunity to have variety in terms of different classes so that you aren't teaching the same 2 lessons over and over again.I know some folks who work in schools where they feel like mindless robots, and this is not the case at Flying English.I'm personally very satisfied with the work load and the autonomy given.I get to infuse my personal teaching style, which can make it great fun.I Really enjoyed my time here.

Flying English Flew Away With Our Hearts

When we first came to China, we weren't planning on staying in Shanghai for more than a month. Two years later, we're still in Shanghai working at Flying English and about to sign a contract for a third year.
The school is very small, now with only one location. The owners literally sit a few meters away and are very open and friendly. They go out of their way to make us feel comfortable and have gone above and beyond helping us navigate the difficulties of settling down in a new country and new culture.
The classes are great, too. Classes are kept small, so you really get the chance to get to know and bond with the students. It's been great to watch so many develop their English and go from barely knowing anything to having full conversations. We get a lot of freedom with how we teach, and as long as you cover the basics you can tailor the classes to what the students need and to your own teaching style.
Overall, I would recommend Flying English to anyone who wants to actually teach and do more than just be a pretty foreign face. It's a great school in a great city!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
When we first got to Shanghai, we rented an Airbnb. Our hostess took us out for hotpot, where we got to taste goose liver, tripe, and pigs brains. The pig brains were actually pretty good!

Great school / wonderful place to work at / my experience

I love working in Flying English. The working environment is very positive and friendly. My co-workers are very helpful and nice to me. They are inspiring and hard-working people. If you like to be in an international team and love teaching language, then this might be the place to start. And you can explore Shanghai , China and Asian where the foods are delicous and full of adventures.
They have developed a pretty good program for the kids. The teaching material has been taught to many kids and proved that it is quite effective. If the students follow the program from an early age, they could be an advance speaker in English. There will be a full training course before taking over the classes. My mentors are great! They are very nice people and help me a lot along the way.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Before I work in Flying English, I thought children should play and have fun in their early age. After I saw so many lovely and smart kids in our shcool. It changed my view of pre-shcool education. Children can be creative and learn lots of thing at the same time. It depends on the teachers teaching style. It really gets me rethink about what's the best way to teach and what expereince a teacher can bring to a kid.

Sarah

I've been working at Flying English for a year and I love here. When I first came here, I was worried that I could not do well and my colleagues would not get along well. But when I came here, I found that there was a good working atmosphere and everyone was friendly, just like a big family. In this year, I learned a lot, whether it is the ability to solve problems, or self-improvement. The school ofren organizes activities where people hang out together. I believe Flying English will get better and better in the future!

Teach at Flying English

I’ve been working at Flying English Center for a year. It has been an interesting and challenging experience for me. My main job is to improve the teaching system and train new teachers. Even though I had taught Children English for almost 7 years before working here, it’s still a very challenging job for me. Fortunately, the people at school are all super helpful and everyone here takes education very seriously. They are very eager to learn and improve their teaching skills. Throughout the training process, I have received constant feedback from all of the teachers. It's great to work with a group of people that we can learn from each other.
As teachers, at Flying English, we are always encouraged to be creative with our class. Finding the best and most suitable way to teach different classes is one of the most exciting parts of the job. Teachers share new activities and offer suggestions to make classes more effective and efficient. School has never stopped trying to provide a better environment for teachers to develop, especially for new teachers. If you want to become a real teacher and meet great people, I highly reccommend this school.

work at flying english

l joined Flying English two years ago and l want to recommond this school for everyone. When I first joined Flying English it was a bit confusing for me. We only had a staff of 7, so it was challenging to have a lot of different responsibilites. After my training I have learned how to solve the problems I have encountered at work every day (for example, liaising with parents and teachers). Since then, I've also been promoted and have seen the staff grow from 7 to 30 plus! They will give everyone training to improve their ability. We also have a lot of festival, eg. hallloween/christmas.Everyone will very excited to decorate our school. And then we can play with each other, also can have fun. l am very glad to meet this school and my partner. We are family.

Work at Flying English

I joined Flying English several months ago and I want to recommend this school for anyone who is looking for a position at a kids ESL school in Shanghai. Everyone at school, especially the boss, is so nice and they always provide you with support and help about not only work but also private life. We have a lot of trainings on different topics, like how to teach and how to talk with parents. Every employee can get the opportuntity to learn and grow from the work. I felt a little bit challenging when I first took the position because I didn't know much about kids ESL industry. With the training, I get to know the teaching materials more and I am able to talk with different parents easily. I am so happy to see self improvement from the job. We are a big family here :D

Rewarding career

I've been here at Teaching English for nearly 2 years now and watched it grow from 3 small classrooms to a massive building with 13 classrooms and several hundred students. From the very beginning, the work environment has always felt more like a family. Whenever I needed help for personal issues such as living costs and getting around, my colleagues and boss were more than happy to assist me. I absolutely love the working environment and it has taught me so much. You are not handed your students and classes, you work for them. Demos are given to introduce to parents and students how you teach and if the context is suitable for their child. If they like you, they sign. You are also free to plan your own lessons in whatever way you find best would suit your students. I've built so many strong bonds with not just my colleagues, but with my students and their parents as well. It's amazing to watch your students go from speaking close to zero English to being able to speak in complete sentences.
