Wildlife volunteering Ontario, Canada, 2018

I am really not good at this but here It goes. I am from Georgia USA and I needed to get some experience for my education back home. I am a biology student and I am planning to work in wildlife conservation and rescue after I graduate.

I chose this program since it was mentioned that it gives the best possible experience for my resume. There are different locations for this program but if you mention that you are looking for experience as this is your field of study then they will place you with the most relevant project which in my case was a wildlife hospital. I got a lot of experience and I learned quite a bit.

The area is also very nice and the great lakes are beautiful. Traveling around can be a bit difficult unless you have a rental car since it is quite isolated. My purpose was different of course but I am just saying if you are coming to travel and see places then its something you should be aware of.

What would you improve about this program?
What I would like other volunteers to know is that this project is not just 1 but there are different locations within Ontario and Fronteering choses which location you will go to. I like my location but I can't say much about the others.

Volunteering at the Australia Zoo

I volunteered at the Australia zoo last Summer. I like the Australia wildlife and always was a big fan of Steve Irwin. Seeing this opportunity I knew it was for me. I had a great time and learned a lot. I should say that the location is quite isolated so that is something that you should be aware of. We also were staying in a nearby hostel which was okay but I know that they since then have instead been using homestays which In my opinion is much better and I would have preferred that option but unfortunately that was not possible when I went.

I can really recommend this trip especially now that it includes homestay accommodation and meals.

(why do we have to leave such a long review, I think if you would allow us to leave shorter reviews more people would do it).

Koala Care Australia with Fronteering

Hi everyone I came recently back from my Australian Adventure. Based out of Brisbane I volunteering for 4 weeks at the Koala Sanctuary. It was a excellent time where I learned and experienced much. I did the whole back pack packing thing and Started Melbourne and ended up in Kakadu before heading home. Honestly the Volunteering was the highland of my stay. It was nice to be in one place for a longer time and I had such a good time there with the other volunteers. We did so many things together and the volunteering with the animals was amazing. Keep in mind that it does involve quite a bit of cleaning! I did not mind it though as in the end it is all for the goof the animal.

Al in all I had a good time and have not regretted it for one second. I hope more people will go out there and volunteer I believe schools and governments should make it mandatory for people to go volunteering abroad at least once in their life.

Volunteering in Guyana

I was first slight nervous about this programme as I am not so young any more as some other volunteers that join these programmes. I am from Spain and always loved South America and had been to most countries there. I always heard about this hidden gem called Guyana but did not know much about this place so I knew I had to go see it for myself.

After some search I came across some interesting volunteering programmes from Fronteering and I know that was the way I wanted to go.

In short Guyana was amazing and I can recommend it to anyone. Whether young or old. The programme was well organized and it was a great cause to help with sustainable eco tourism and to help out the Amerindian people.

Go see it now before I all changes!

I will be back!

Volunteering Russia

Together with my friend I traveled to Russia to volunteer at the Lake Baikal Conservation project. When my friend first told me about this program I had no idea where it was, even more I never heard about Lake Baikal before. Even though I always wanted to travel Russia and this was a great experience.

Being so isolated and so far away from the normal world was really cool and interesting. It also meant that we made a lot of friends and even if I had travelled alone I would have still had a great time.

Lake Baikal is really nice and a beautiful place, There is nice wildlife to see everyone and the Vistas are amazing. The volunteering team is also great and helps you along the way.

I also want to Thank Fronteering, my coordinator Yusuf was really nice and helpful.

What would you improve about this program?
I wish we could have stayed longer as I really did not want to leave

Guyana Amerindian community

My Volunteer experience at the Amerindian community eco lodge exceeded all of my expectations. Having spent time living and traveling in diverse places all over the world, I must say that the interior of Guyana offers a once in a lifetime opportunity for a truly raw experience. In addition to the wonderful landscape and wildlife, it was amazing working in conjunction with members of the Village in their efforts to preserve the nature and wildlife. I will never forget my time in Guyanaand recommend a volunteering opportunity to everyone!

And For anyone who is nervous about going to such a off the beaten path country... Don't be! Fronteering literally is by your side all the way from the moment you set foot in Georgetown Int. Airport until the moment you leave. They even take you out for drinks and dinner in the evening in Georgetown which was nice to see as well.

What would you improve about this program?
No comment. All the Fronteering staff was great and very hands on and they spent a lot of time guiding me at the project.

Lake Baikal conservation

When I saw this opportunity I knew I had to do this! Lake Baikal has always been such a Magnificent place to me but also kind of unreachable! That was until I saw this program. Thanks Fronteering we for making this possible and making the arrangements.

We had a great group and a great time and I have made so many friends and Memories. I do have to say that the group I suppose can really make or break your stay.

For those who don't know Lake Baikal! Calling it just a lake doesn't do it justice. It is more of a freshwater Ocean including seals! I really like the effort of this program to help set up sustainable tourism as well as conservation works to keep the lake as beautiful and untouched as it is!

I can really recommend this program and I hope it will draw more interests as it is much worth it!

What would you improve about this program?
A bit more clarity about what a regular day looks like.

Wildlife volunteering at a Rescue center in Ontario, Canada

I had a great time in Canada volunteering at the rescue center in Ontario. We were based about 2 hours from Toronto near some smaller towns. It was great to be rural while still being able to visit the nearby towns and on occasion Toronto when we had days off.

The animals are absolutely adorable and I loved bottle feeding them. I had a great time and I learned a lot about animal Husbandry. While volunteering at a rehab and rescue center is nothing fancy as like in the zoo's it is so much more rewarding since you get to release the animals back in to the wild.

Some people find it sad that the animals or that contact has to be avoided as much as possible but I learned that it is important for the animals (especially the bears) to not get attached/used to humans if they are going to have a chance at survival.

Great programs, Good service, can recommend it for sure!

What would you improve about this program?
There are more then one projects that fall under this program so it is not clear from the start at which location in Ontario you will be volunteering until after your placement has been confirmed. Not really an issue but something you should be aware of.

Volunteering at the Wildlife Hospital of Australia Zoo

When I first saw this program I was like wow cool volunteering at Steve Irwin's Australia zoo! That Is cool! However I wanted not to volunteer at a sanctuary/zoo. I prefer to work with real wild animals!

When I learned that this program is actually with the Wildlife Hospital of Australia zoo where you help with the care and rehab of native species that will be released back in to the wild I got really excited!

So this I not a zoo caring program and all your efforts go towards the great cause of releasing animals back in to the wild. Some of the species are even endangered!

What I like to tell everyone interested is that this program is great and rewarding but you better be ready to get your hands dirty as quite a bit of cleaning is involved as that is afteral one of the most important tasks especially dealing with sick and weakened animals as they can not handle getting a infection from a dirty cage.

The service Fronteering offered was great though sometimes I took them a few days to respond when I first inquired, but it seems they are just very busy. There staff is very nice and helpful though!

What would you improve about this program?
To be clear this program is in at the Australia Zoo wildlife hospital and not at the Australia zoo.

Australia Koala volunteering with Fronteering

Hi Everyone reading my review! My name is Maxime and I am from the Southern Part of Germany. For my first trip abroad without my parents I choose to volunteer for 6 weeks at the Koala program by Fronteering in Australia followed by several weeks of Backpacking before I was to start university in Germany.

Fronteering did a great job of helping me be comfortable and making all the arrangements. This helped me feel better about the trip and gave me the courage to travel just by myself. I stayed with a nice homestay family in the great Brisbane area not too far from the Sanctuary.

I had a very nice time and I loved working with the koala's and other volunteers. I was concerned that I would not have any friends but I made many friends quickly which was so fun as we got to do lots of fun things together and I made a friend so we could travel together after finishing my program.

I loved the program and I am exciting to go back to Australia!

What would you improve about this program?
no comment, nothing I can think of at the moment..
