Teaching at Shane English School, Dalian

While it's still very early in my teaching career with Shane English School, it has so far been a very positive experience.
My situation is rather unusual as I already had Chinese family in Dalian who took me in upon arrival, nonetheless the staff at the local school have been extremely helpful in getting me set up here, answering my questions and guiding me through the school's teaching approach as I adjust to life in Dalian. I cannot comment on the experience of other school's and cities but my impression of the organisation as a whole is very positive, I believe I can trust the school and that the style of teaching is effective as well as manageable. The school's day-to-day operation is relatively relaxed but professional, creating a comfortable learning environment for the students and happy, productive staff. I do recommend Shane English School for budding language teachers and travelers seeking reliable work with an international experience.

What would you improve about this program?
More communication between local staff and the English teachers with regards to some operational logistics, relatively minor.

Shane English Dalian

I have been teaching at Shane in Dalian for a year now and the experience have been great so far. The chinese staff and the foreign teacher have been amazing to work with. The teachers and the teaching assistants have a good working chemistry and work well together. The working hours are good, giving the teachers enough time for themselves to explore or just relax. And the working environment is always active and non stressful. Classes are small and give the teachers the opportunity to be able to give every student the attention they need. Management is very good and always try to assist if there are any issues in or outside school. I would recommend teaching at Shane for anyone looking at starting their journey as a teacher or teachers looking for a new adventure.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-racking moment would be doing demos anland presentations with parents watching. From teaching at an international school where it wasn't necessary to do demos or presentations this was a new experience for me.

Shane English Chongqing

I have worked for Shane English in Chongqing for 18 months now and it is a friendly and rewarding place to work at. I had previously taught in Shenzhen, so this made it easier for me to adjust to this school. It is still a relatively new school, and the manager has been very hands on attending to the needs of the students and parents. This has been important as it is more demanding developing a new school. She has always been available to explain what is expected with teaching matters and do her best to have lessons run smoothly. When I have needed help with anything outside of teaching the staff have been particularly helpful, going beyond what I usually expect.

If you're up for a challenging, but fun, working experience in a city that offers something a bit different, then you'll enjoy your time here.

A Great Experience

I worked for Shane English in Nanjing for 4 years and overall had a wonderful experience. The school were always extremely attentive to the needs of the teacher, offering a clear and well organized curriculum. This was my first ESL teaching position after I completed my TEFL certification and initially I was nervous about how to go about teaching young learners. The school however, helped me to find my footing in the classroom, with plenty of initial training and observations of others. Furthermore, the school helped me every step of the way with finding a house and setting up the basic things to getting settled in Nanjing. I continue to recommend Shane Nanjing to anyone looking to teach in China, it is an extremely professional and well organized school.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Starting off was the most nerve racking, not knowing what to expect. However, with all the support offered there was very little to worry about.

Teaching at a Shane English School in Beijing

So far teaching in Beijing has been a great experience. The application went through very quickly and the recruitment team at Saxoncourt helped to make finding the right job a smooth process and guiding me through the visa process. As someone completely new to teaching, moving abroad to teach seemed daunting but the support offered was great -there was a lot of advice offered for the transition of moving to China and then when I arrived the training provided helped to feel more confident in how to teach effectively.

The school staff are all very friendly and were helpful while I was getting settled in, and the teaching hours allow a lot of free time during the week to get out and explore Beijing which is a great bonus.

I would definitely recommend this program to anyone considering it.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
My most nerve-racking moment was teaching my first ever lesson.
