About Program

Globe Aware's program is located in Siem Reap, the gateway to the famous Angkor Wat temples. Volunteers will participate in a variety of projects, usually including a mix of concrete projects such as assembling wheelchairs or making home repairs in indigent areas to soft skill projects working with children in a variety of interactive opportunities at a village school in a rural Cambodian village.
Volunteers may also help in the construction of a chicken coop for a needy village family. A chicken coop will allow the family to harvest the eggs for a great source of protein as well as sell any surplus eggs for a profit. Volunteers may also participate in part of our reforestation efforts in villages around Siem Reap.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Cambodia

The work projects were very meaningful. Not only did they provide me the insight to the Cambodian culture, I was able to help with the various projects we were assigned. It really was inspirational. There was a good balance of free time and work. The best part was being in the villages, helping with projects and teaching. It was a life changing opportunity and I am very grateful to have participated. I will most likely volunteer again.
