About Program

Become an orangutan sanctuary volunteer in Borneo and play your part in orangutan conservation. This renowned sanctuary hosts the largest number of captive orangutans and the most successful release program in the world.

You can play a role in the rehabilitation of orangutans who are able to be released back to the wild, as well as providing a happy life for permanent residents at the sanctuary. The primary way in which you will do this is by creating and distributing enrichment to the apes. Enrichment helps to stimulate innate behaviours in orangutans such as nest building and foraging but also keeps the minds of orangutans who sadly cannot be released engaged and stimulated.

You will also work with the sanctuary's resident sun bears, providing them too with enrichment and also completing animal husbandry tasks. Along with encountering stunning wildlife, you will experience the exotic sights and sounds of jungle life, along with the beauty and tranquillity of Indonesian culture.
