About Program

The mission for this volunteer program is to care for and support children from as young as a month to 5 years old. Today, Sparkle Malawi is at full capacity with 150 orphan children, 65 of whom have HIV. As well as education, nutrition is a major focus for our kids. The provision of meals and regular health checks is top priority.

Activities: Feeding the children, helping with teaching, playing games, helping in the kitchens. Volunteers at Sparkle will also have the opportunity to help single mothers with training on child care, nutrition, hygiene talks. We also aim to provide creative learning to encourage the well rounded development of each and every child at Sparkle while also training local teachers.

Sparkle is located in the village of Sogoja Village, Skinner. 10 minutes outside of Zomba.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Make a real difference in this young and exciting charity

It is definitely true that malawi is the warm heart of Africa. We had an amazing time visiting Sparkle, the people are so welcoming and they have an incredible sense of community spirit. The best part for me was talking to the village leaders and members of the different Sparkle support groups to find out what business ideas could make a long term difference to then. Together we came up with a list of suggestions and we are now planning to select a few to implement. I hope to be able to go back in the future and see the impact that these ideas have had on the ground!
