Review

My two daughters and I traveled to San Antonio Aguas Calientes to stay with a family for a week for the Mayan cultural immersion program. It was an enjoyable and touching experience. Although my daughters do not have Spanish language skills, they were able to connect and have fun with the kids. We had multiple opportunities to engage with the community during religious events. We visited during La Semana Santa, which was a great time to visit. We felt safe the entire visit. Our program was only one week and we wish we could have stayed longer.

I was surprised during training that MN is owned by an overseas corporation, this was not apparent to me when I was selecting a provider. As indicated in the survey, I don’t feel that the program had high value, based on price. It’s disappointing that program costs are going toward profits for the international owner.

I also felt that the level of information provided during registration was low. I almost selected another provider because of it. I suggest you work toward placing volunteers as early as possible. For our program, you recognized early that we would be suitable for some but not all of the Immersion programs — the suitable program could have been communicated to the representative during the 15 Q&A call. As it was structured, that call provided no value for me and almost turned me off the program. The purpose of the call was to get answers to specific question and each answer to each of my questions was: “it depends on the placement”

The low level of disorganization during registration made me concerned about safety. However, my daughters and I felt safe during the entire program. My only concern was the dogs.

Last bit of feedback: we had a great time. It was a good placement for our family. My kids said that everyone was really nice and the food was really good.
