Teaching in Zambia

"Summer School with international teachers!" - That's what the advertisement sign at the gate of my school read. I might be international, but I was far from a teacher on that first day of my volunteer adventure! Throughout the next four weeks I tried to fill the teacher role as best as I could and I enjoyed it extremely! My kids were eager to learn and super sweet. I didn't change the world in these four weeks and I couldn't teach every child to read and write but it was the small victories that made it all worthwhile. That little boy, who can now write his name and is eager to learn more; or the girl who was so shy and scared in the beginning that she didn't speak above a whisper finally spoke up and participated in class; or the forth grader who was always last in his class and felt like he would never be able to excel can add numbers without using his fingers now! This is just one of the many reasons I loved my time teaching in Zambia and can wholeheartedly recommend it!
