About Program

An EduPair is a family member, a role model, a private tutor, and not a nanny.

An EduPair is someone who lives with a family and helps out with childcare in an educational way. In exchange, EduPairs receive language and cultural development as well as food and accommodation. Generally speaking, our host families expect EduPairs to take on a positive educational role for the host kid(s)' second language study. This usually means teaching English through play and exploring aspects of your culture together.

No, I don't recommend this program

Didn't go as planned, but ended good anyway

I had a great time the 2,5 months where I stayed with a host family. But the first 3,5 months in Limbo where I had no host family because my host family bailed on me (not the agencies fault), was not what I signed up for. The agency provided accomodation for me while I didn't have a family, and I atended University courses everyday that the agency had paid for. Food was my main expense. So It was an okay 3,5 months, where I had friends and a everyday purpose studying Chinese. There was tho a lot of drama in the agency between the other Au Pairs and the Management. But my personal experience was pretty good all in all

What would you improve about this program?
Better communication between agency and Au Pairs
Pros
  • China is great to experience
  • Immersion into Chinese culture by staying with a family
  • You get to go to Chinese university
Cons
  • Management problems
  • Chinese family are very different from western family's, and you have to be prepared for the culture shock
  • The Edu Pair dissatisfaction had been quite high
