Qualifications
  • Prior Experience: Previous experience working, volunteering or traveling abroad a plus.
  • Language: Proficiency Spoken and written fluency in English.
  • Knowledge: Solid working knowledge of community development and the host country's culture, history, and current events; demonstrated ability to maintain working-level contacts with NGO officials and host families.
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to take initiative, work under minimal guidance, and in both office and field settings. Organizational and administrative skills. Excellent computer skills in word-processing and database management.
  • Motivation and commitment to work effectively as part of an inter-cultural team. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment under normal as well as complex and often stressful conditions.

Price Details
Isla participants are provided with an internship placement with a targeted scope of work prepared in coordination with the host organization. Additionally, housing and daily meals, pre-departure orientation and in-country training, in-country transportation, international medical and emergency evacuation insurance, and 24/7 in-country support are provided. Participants are responsible for the cost of flights to and from the site location as well as the fees associated with this program, and any personal expenditures. The cost for this program is $3960 for a 9-week internship. Nearly all of our past participants have received academic credit and/or university or national scholarships towards this experiential learning opportunity.
