Why did you pick this program?

I picked this program because Costa Rica is beautiful and holds 5% of the world's biodiversity, so it's basically a dream state for a biologist. I wanted to experience a new culture and environment as well as work hands on on a biology research project and I was able to accomplish all of that through here.

What do you tell your friends who are thinking about going abroad?

Do it. Absolutely do it. I know it's a lot of money, but the experience it worth it plus some.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

Bring bug spray and sunscreen and don't forget to use it many times a day!

What's your favorite story to tell about your time abroad?

I like to give my happiest memory (to date): lying on the beach during our lunch break and listening to the waves and watching the macaws fly overhead. I would do anything to go back to those days and moments.

Is the language barrier difficult?

No! Costa Rica gets a lot of their income from tourism and they also include English in their school curriculum starting in elementary, so majority of the people you'll encounter are bilingual!
