Tell us about yourself, Cecilia.

I am an experienced Chinese teacher and have taught at the Confucius Institute at Nairobi University in Kenya. I received my Master's Degree in Educational Technology at Tianjin Normal University and am a psychological consultant as well.

I now focus on helping people to learn a second language and helping the parents improve their own family education with Aupairia programs at Aupairia.

What is your favorite travel memory?

Sometimes, you fall in love with a country not only because of the beautiful land and the lovely people there, but also because of how deep you're able to dive into the local life and culture.

My favorite memory is not from travel, but from when I was a volunteer teacher in Kenya. During the time I taught, my students and colleagues brought me a lot of unique places during our free time -- from famous sights in the area to the undiscovered alleys and avenues of Nairobi -- we talked to the people who live and work there and we shared our thoughts on life with one another.

My students and neighbors taught me to cook local dishes. During the school holidays, we traveled around and met young people from all over the world who were working in Kenya. We shared our experiences and stories with one another.

I have so many fond memories from this time and these experiences gave me a much better understanding of the country and its people -- the magic is in experiencing the local life and culture of another country.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Many au pairs have visited China through our program during the last year and we keep in touch with many of them after they return to their home countries.

As a Chinese teacher, nothing can be more impressive than my students saying that they think Chinese is an interesting language and that they love learning it. One of our au pairs enrolled in a two-year study abroad program, during which she will spend one year studying in China.

I'm thrilled that she's willing to return to China to learn more, and we're looking forward to seeing her again this coming year.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Our programs, for au pairs and host families, are more education focused. Because of that, the most encouraging moment is when a host family's child or an au pair makes progress in their second language study. They often share exciting experiences of amazing discoveries in their second language and of experiencing another culture. These stories make us feel our efforts truly do help people, and that the difficulties that we experience are worthwhile.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Listen to your customers, be willing to help them to achieve their goals, and support them with a cooperative team. I think these are the most important elements in being a successful company, especially in the education sector.

Nowadays, more and more people are searching for the opportunity to make themselves a better person -- our position is to create an opportunity for young foreigners and the Chinese families we match them with to achieve this and improve their inter-cultural ability.
