Title:
Admissions

Photos

Jackie is fairly new to this post of Admissions for Project Laut but as a retired Medical Imaging Technologist, she is enjoying her time in contact with so many interesting and young individuals who wish to further their diving certification and Marine Conservation skills. She is happily married, and enjoys hiking, music, reading, cycling and continuous learning.

What is your favorite travel memory?

A day excursion into Bulgaria to a Thracian Museum in Varna is a powerful memory as artifacts were on display from a civilization that created bronze and gold jewelry and tools from over 10,000 years ago. It was an amazing eye opener! The experience made me aware of just how much I don't know about the world around me so travel gained new appreciation from me!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Since joining Project Laut I have become more educated in scuba diving certification levels and the various diving companies that offer these programs. I have also found myself reading more about marine conservation in general which is a worthwhile education avenue for us all!

I am also learning to take the time to be present when reading the applications and emails from potential interns as each person is unique and so gifted with talents that they bring to our project.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

One of the best stories that comes to mind is from a student who was "lost" due to the currents being strong where he was diving, but with the help of the excellent instructions given to him by his instructor, Joma, the student was able to put his lessons to use, and safely surface with a Smile on his face!

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I'd complete the program to DiveMaster, the full "Zero to Hero" internship! It has 14 weeks of amazing diving and instruction to offer in one of the most beautiful diving and natural areas of the world. While accomplishing my diving certification, I would be involved with the 3 Conservation efforts Project Laut offers.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

A professional instructor who cares deeply about the marine environment and a focused conservation effort to share with interns; small class sizes; a fun environment; a collaborative effort with neighbouring conservation groups: what more could we ask for?

For those folks called to participate in Marine Conservation, you can participate in the three focused projects as well as improve your diving skills!

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Transparency, honesty, passion for marine health, meeting clients needs and communicating clearly at their level. These are in my opinions, the most important factors in being successful as a company. There is also great benefit in reviews from participants who can offer ways to improve the experience for all.
