Amazing internship abroad experience!

My summer internship in Buenos Aires through Puentes Abroad was a fantastic experience. I felt supported by the Puentes team but was still able to create my own community and life there independently from the program. I interned with TECHO Argentina, a housing non-profit, and am so grateful for the fun, inspiring work there but also my amazing coworkers I got to see day in, day out. I fell in love with the city of Buenos Aires. The art, live music, and fantastic night life was very conducive to meeting new people all the time and swapping stories. I genuinely grew as a person in my time there and I already can't wait to go back!

Pros
  • Expanding Spanish language fluency
  • meeting young people of Argentina
  • becoming comfortable with being on your own and exploring the world around you

GEO and Buenos Aires

I loved the team at GEO. Super flexible, accommodating and supportive to work with. I learned a tremendous amount of Spanish and culture while working.
Amazing experience overall with Puentes and the program. I lived with a host family and was extremely fortunate to live with a whole family close to work. People had different experiences with host living, a lot of people only lived with one older woman and not a whole family. I could also walk to work which was great, but the public transit is convenient too. Prices are affordable especially compared to US. Go to Puentes orientation as they give important info. Night life is fun just take care of your belongings! iPhones are expensive and people will steal them.
10/10 would recommend overall great experience . team at Puentes is fantastic too

Pros
  • Range of Activities in Buenos Aires
  • Easy place to travel from
  • Culture and lifestyle
Cons
  • All Spanish-- so you should want to learn Spanish if you come here
  • Winter during the Summer
  • Safety (just have to be aware 100% of the time)

Weight In Mind Internship

This is my first internship experience, and I am very happy with it. Through this experience, I learnt a lot, including, communicating skills, self-directed working style. For a student who studies Biochemistry, normally I only work with numbers, elements and formulas, so it’s nice to work with actual human beings. The instructors provided me with full support and trust, they gave me a friendly working experience. During the internship, I produced a promotional video for a new product and few posters. I enjoyed this experience. It has a magic balance between overwhelming and challenging.

My Puentes experience

"Puentes Abroad has been fantastic from the beginning of my internship until now. I absolutely loved my internship experience since I was able to gain real-world experience while working on interesting projects. I would strongly recommend Puentes to anyone looking for an internship that includes a distant, international experience as well as professional development workshops and excellent supervision. This experience improved both my personal and professional life."

Thank you so much

Amazing Virtual Experience

I had a fantastic virtual experience with Puentes Abroad with an agricultural consulting internship in Buenos Aires. Puentes staff and programming did a fantastic job with guest speakers, tours, and an all around comprehensive cultural dive into Argentina. In the internship itself, I had immense support from the Puentes team with many check-ins at the beginning, middle, and end of the internship. I was able to come away from the program with new skills, cultural experiences, and a fantastic summer.

What would you improve about this program?
Really wish it was in-person and that we could've traveled. Highly encourage all future participants to take advantage of it.

Puentes is Great!!

I loved my remote experience with Puentes Abroad!! The staff is phenomenal and provides support every step of the way. I also got the chance to intern at a great NGO and I'm extremely grateful for the experience! The workshops held allowed me to learn more about Argentina and learn important skills for the workplace that I'm sure I'll apply in my career. I had a one-on-one session with Maddy on international job curation that opened my eyes to all the opportunities out there for working abroad. I highly recommend Puentes Abroad to anyone looking for a global internship!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Despite being virtual, I got to try yerba mate which was a unique experience.

The bridge between dreams and goals

I felt that the Puentes team paired me up with the internship to make the best use of my strengths: marketing. They also paired me with an excellent mentor to help me grow professionally. My interests have not changed. In fact, because the Puentes team took the time to listen to my dreams and goals and took the time to pair me with the right internship and mentor, they successfully enhanced my motivation to make my dream a reality: a world nomad working remotely. The also provided me with the proper tools to immediately shift from a traditional job to the remote lifestyle.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take the time to meet the puentes team, they are incredibly insightful and helpful. The best part is that they tailor their advice to meet your goals. I am working hard to start my own marketing and business consultancy. My dream is to work remotely and travel, their team helped organize myself and design the process to make remote work possible for me.

Awesome Remote Internship Experience!

With Puentes Abroad, I was able to intern with Matriarca, a clothing cooperative based in Argentina that works with indigenous women to help bring their products to market. I collaborated with the marketing team to develop strategies for selling in the United States. Through these experiences, I was able to gain insight into future career paths, develop my professional skills, immerse myself in Argentinian culture, and meet an amazing cohort of like-minded individuals. The staff members at Puentes Abroad really care about their interns having a meaningful global experience, and I felt supported throughout the entire program. I would definitely recommend this program to a friend, and I am so grateful that I was able to have such a rewarding experience during a global pandemic.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I was very surprised that I was still able to learn so much about the Argentinian culture without actually living in the country. Puentes Abroad set up various workshops throughout the program cycle to help facilitate this learning!

Remote Buenos Aires Internship through Puentes Abroad

Even though I had been looking forward to participating in an in-person Puentes experience, the Puentes staff worked with remarkable dexterity, flexibility, and creativity to adapt the internship and cultural immersion experience to a remote format, due to travel restrictions because of the pandemic. Although I wasn't able to go to Buenos Aires in person, I gained valuable professional experience and created international relationships through my remote internship with a Latin American community development NGO, right from my desk at home! Through closely guided mentorship, the Puentes program staff supported and enriched my personal growth all along the way. I cannot recommend the Puentes remote internship experience enough!

It was a great blend of professional and cultural experience!

It was also very nicely tailored to undergraduates by giving us a perfect blend of support and guidance that young people need but also space to figure things out for ourselves. It has largely increased my interest in the Spanish certificate, desire to continue in nonprofit-related volunteer work or extracurriculars, and consideration of the sector as a future career. I know that in real life and not virtually during the pandemic (for future post-pandemic readers) it would've been even more magnificent. Definitely recommend! :)))

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
The coronavirus pandemic so that I could actually meet all the great people in person!
