About Program
Enhance your knowledge of the Belize Barrier Reef during our Tropical Marine Ecology course. Through various classroom, field and laboratory components, students will learn about the worldwide importance of coral reefs and how the complex systems work together. The bulk of fieldwork will be spent snorkeling and students will get hands-on experience at more than a dozen of the most spectacular coral reef
locations left on earth. Each day there will be encounters with endangered species that only a lucky few will ever see.
In addition to learning about the biological and ecological history of the reef, there will also be opportunities to explore anthropogenic activities that have positive and negative impacts on these ecosystems in general. Lectures will focus on how both local and global human activities can be addressed to positively impact outcomes for coral reefs.
