About Program

At Lex, pre-law students rotate to a new law firm each day, where they can expect to gain a deeper understanding of day-to-day life in the legal field. This is done by completing case studies and meeting with firms and attorneys throughout the host cities. In addition, they develop a deep appreciation for the rich cultures our site locations have to offer. For seven years, Lex has been the best opportunity for real-world legal instruction to interested pre-law students. With fellowships in the US and Europe, our programs are for students that are ready to take their law school applications to the next level. What better way to gain hands-on experience with diverse cases, fields, and lawyers than in fast-paced and beautiful cities across Spain, Italy, the UK, France, Germany, Australia, Argentina and the US!

Law school is a significant investment of time and financial resources. Through the Lex Fellowship, you can start to determine if law school is right for you.

Good experience

Learned a lot about law, was a very fulfilling and fun experience that was well worth the cost in my opinion. Was a great way for me to figure out whether I want to pursue law in the future or not, and the legal advisor was very helpful with providing information as well as his contact in case we need to reach out to him for anything at all in the future regarding law school or our applications.

Other than that, the food we ate and the restaurants that we went to were amazing, although the accommodations were extremely terrible, the program is a little bit costly in general, and there weren't enough excursions or lunches provided.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
ask as many questions as you can.
Pros
  • Fun
  • Fulfilling
  • Memorable
Cons
  • Not enough excursions
  • Accommodation rooms were terrible

Amazing experience !

I had such a great trip! I met some amazing fellow students, lawyers, and teachers. I am so fortunate and I recommend this trip to everyone !! The housing was great and clean and very close to the city. The plans were organized and we learned how to take the metro and travel the city. We tried new restaurants, went to a baseball game, shopped at stores, visited museums, met some experienced lawyers, tried new foods, and lastly, made friendships that will sustain for years to come. I have made best friends, experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime.

The people I was with! We had so many jokes and inside memories that I cherish to this day.

Madrid + Rome Lex Program

I had an amazing time during my Lex program in Madrid and Rome. It allowed me to become fully immersed in the cultures of the cities I was visiting while also providing me with invaluable real-world legal experience. You visit a wide variety of law firms, all specializing in various different legal fields, giving you the opportunity to explore lots of different legal careers. The city managers were so helpful with getting us situated in a foreign city, and the legal advisors offered tons of advice about law school applications and taking the LSAT's. I fully recommend this program for any pre-law students who are looking for a fun and engaging study abroad experience.

Pros
  • Great preparation for law school
  • Good mix of educational and fun activities
  • Incredible city managers and legal advisors
Cons
  • The language barrier can be difficult when traveling overseas, though it's not an issue when visiting law firms

Amazing D.C. Law Experience!

I had a great experience with the Lex Fellowship this past summer! Over the course of the program, I was able to visit a new law firm within a different field of law each day and thoroughly analyze cases with the attorneys who argued them. The Lex Fellowship was timely, organized, and helpful navigating the law firm visits and organizing events for us to participate in. I studied and worked with a cohort of 10 other students in the fellowship to argue legal scenarios, debate oral arguments, analyze and solve cases as well as present them to law firms.

The program allowed me to gain so much knowledge in the different fields of law and we were given a legal advisor who helped us gain valuable legal skills with over 30 hours of training while being able to complete law school level coursework. I cannot recommend the Lex Fellowship enough!

Rome Late Summer of 2019

The Lex Fellowship was a great learning experience that puts you right in the heart of foreign culture. I was fortunate enough to have an amazing legal advisor, site manager, and lex representative in the 2019 late summer Rome Trip that made my experience all the better. The hands on approach that the law firms take when you visit them leaves a lasting impression on you even though it can seem like a short amount of time. Each firm specialized in different areas which was also a very eye opening experience as someone who was somewhat undecided on what I wanted to specialize and focus on moving forward in law school. The amenities (apartment, food provided, excursions) were good although do plan on spending a good amount of money on your own excursions if you want to fully take advantage of your time abroad. Overall I would give the fellowship a 9/10 experience, the freedom they provided me was adequate to explore and pursue my own interests, while some meals could have been better and some things could of gone smoother than they did... the whole experience was still great. You have to go abroad with an open mind and open heart if you want to fully appreciate and enjoy your time there. If you have expectations/concerns/fear you will only hold yourself back from the possibility of a greater personal experience! Some of the kindest people I have ever met in my life were on this trip and I keep in touch with a number of my fellows still today!

What would you improve about this program?
Better excursions and food selection on the lunches that were served in the firms

Highly Recommended: The Lex Fellowship

The Lex Fellowship is an incredible program from which I learned much about the legal systems employed by Spain and the European Union. My fellow students and I were awed by our visits to twenty four international and Spanish law firms, as well as four graduate institutions. There is no better opportunity for undergraduates interested in pursuing a career in law, or learning more about international law, than the Lex Fellowship. Every attorney I encountered throughout the program was clearly committed to helping students learn as much as possible about the law. From intellectual property law to maritime and mergers, lex fellows enjoy what is certainly an academic opportunity of a lifetime.

The Lex Fellowship staff are also incredible people of strong character and personal integrity. Staff would take their personal time to speak with students about the law, philosophy, theology, and history; they are committed to making the program excellent and I would be remiss if I did not say that they succeeded. Staff found excellent restaurants in and around Madrid which ensured that students could sample good, healthy, Spanish cuisine. I have been on similar study abroad trips where the food is lackluster and students take ill; the Lex Fellowship staff does such a fine job of providing good food and are that I did not take ill once during my month in Madrid -- quite a feat.

I am both honored and blessed to call myself an alumnus of such a stellar program. I recommend it highly to any student interested in pursuing a career in law or learning more about international law with a fine group of scholars. Become a Lex Fellow. You will be better for it.
