Rome Fall 2024

It's safe to say that my semester abroad changed my life for the better. While I loved traveling to beautiful countries, seeing amazing monuments, and learning about Roman history, my favorite part about studying abroad was the community I made. Everyone was so different in background, religious views, political views, etc. I was amazed how such a diverse group of people were about to get along so well. We challenged each other and supported each other. I learned many valuable life lessons from my peers and my RCs. I learned how to be more open-minded towards people, to be curious and not certain. I learned the importance of culture and how to truly listen to someone's story, Most importantly, I learned the goodness of God through my friends because they loved me unconditionally.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice is to pack light. You don't need that many clothes, because you will just buy new clothes. Bring your essentials, that's it. I also advise people to be intentional with everyone that they are traveling with. It's easy to find your group and stick with them, but people will get a lot more out of the program if they try to have a connection with everyone.
Pros
  • Community
  • Culture Immersion
  • Independence
Cons
  • Curfew is 11:00
  • Some classes are too intense/professors

Living and Learning International- SP'24 Rome Semester

Every day I am so blessed to look back on such an incredible experience. I am so glad I took a leap of faith and went abroad because it has truly changed me as a person and the trajectory of my life from here on out. I never realized how much of a passion I had for other countries , especially Europe, and how valuable their culture has grown to be to me as well a their history. Walking in a city that seems to be stuck in time with many ancient cites still standing is a surreal experience. I loved having to adapt to the culture and learning their ways of life. It has made me me more appreciative of other cultures and has urged me to become more independent.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
After leaving Italy and processing my whole study abroad experience, I wish that I was more spontaneous and pushed myself to experience as much as I could. I went out multiple times a week to shop, eat, and explore some but only to places that felt familiar to me. I wish I pushed myself to finding new places to take the metro to and go to more restaurants instead of just the same three that were most familiar to me.
Pros
  • Amazing community
  • Organized trips
  • Great professors
Cons
  • Living situation
  • Not enough free time in Florence

Why L&LI Rome

This experience has been so impactful towards my independence and cultural understanding. I also got the opportunity to see a whole new worldview. I met life long friends who changed my life for the better through this amazing experience. I would say one of the highlights of my semester was experiencing historical monuments and the prettiest churches with my peers. Before I went abroad I had never flown alone so this was a very new experience for me. I was nervous because I didn't know anyone else going. Living and Learning instantly made me feel welcome when I landed and the community you live in for 3 months is a special bond built with no one else. Ive made life long friends from all around the U.S. during my time.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing I saw was the Colosseum. This was the first monument that they took my group too during the introduction week. I had never seen anything like it before I was in awe. The best part about this was realizing I lived there now and could see the Colosseum when ever I pleased.
Pros
  • Amazing Food
  • Museums
  • Churches
Cons
  • Shower mold
  • Hostel living when independent traveling (just not for me)
  • Laundry

Rome 2023

Had an absolute blast during my semester in Rome! Genuinely the best 3 months of my life.
The people were truly the biggest blessings, and the staff is like a second family to me.

Rome is a beautiful and crazy city. It was so fun to explore and build a second home across the world. Coffee, pasta, history, art, pizza, it was all a dream and I will forever miss it.

The God centered program was such a comfort and I learned so much in my classes taught by both Italian and American professors. It was so lovely to live and learn in such and environment.

Overall, would recommend to anyone considering.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Embrace the community and go see the world!!!
Pros
  • Friends
  • Food
  • Travel
Cons

L&L RWP

The staff was incredible. SO welcoming and knowledgeable. Greta at providing travel advice and providing support when needed. I have made some of my now best friends there and I would not trade those experiences and times of joy and tears for anything. If I could do it all over the exact same way I would. I remember every adventure, Cinque Terra, Munich, Salzburg, Venice, Verona, the Appian Way, wandering through churches and streets and shops. The people made the time there so special and I thank the Lord everyday for that opportunity.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Know before you go. Have a list of places you want to see or experiences you want to have and go out and do or see them. Even if it is by yourself it is ok. It is a solo adventure. Have courage and be wise. Look at average flight and train ticket costs, have ideas and share them. Omio is a go to booking site.
Pros
  • Easy travel
  • Impeccable food
  • One of a kind experiences
Cons
  • Busy depending on the time of year
  • Some hard to get to places

Rome With Purpose Review

The program was run very strictly. For some this could contribute to burnout, but for those able to keep up with a fast paced environment, it is perfect. You have to be very intentional about taking down time, and those that are afraid of missing out will probably be very torn between alone time and fun time. The program takes for granted a determination and desire to travel and engage in the culture. Overall, I recommend it! Great structure and so many opportunities to see not just Rome, but other locations in Europe as well.

Pros
  • Travel Opportunities outside the program
  • Authentic cultural experiences
  • Great community
Cons
  • Heavy workload
  • Pressure to overextend in extracurriculars
  • Authoritative directors

You Can't Find This Anywhere Else

If you're looking for a semester-long program that includes Christian community, great academics, and the chance to explore Rome as well as other places, this program would be a great fit for you. Rome With Purpose focuses on molding college student's Christian character through the presence of directors like Larry and Debbie, as well as faith-based professors who likewise genuinely care about the student's immersion into the Italian culture. During the course of the semester, you will have daily meals with the community of students you are living with, have classes that will connect to the sites you will be exploring, as well as immersing yourself in the beautiful Italian culture. Not only will you experience this, but you will have the opportunity to explore areas of your choosing three weeks out of the semester. I am truly convinced you will not find a program with better value!

First experience abroad= success

This program was so great for me as it gives me an opportunity to study in Rome, Italy. I have always wanted to study abroad and spend time in a different country, and this program has provided me with that opportunity. It is such a unique program as there are 3 weeks set aside for travel time, which gives you the opportunity to see more of Italy, and other countries. It is also unique as it is a 90 day program that allows you to see the world and earn 16 credits. This program was the perfect fit as I have learned to live in a different culture, learn a new language, learn how to cook, and have had such great support behind me. The directors, Larry and Debbie Peck, are so helpful and encouraging. They have been so helpful with being able to answer any questions, provide resources to help in any way possible, and encourage you to immerse yourself in the culture. While this is such a short time abroad, I would definitely recommend to be intentional about your time abroad as many different opportunities will come your way. One of my favorite memories of this trip is the time that we would spend at lunch everyday and dinner twice a week, each week. There were community meals, and some of the best laughs came from those meals, and it was always just so much fun to get to talk to everyone and share some experiences that you have had.
