Beijing

Dan helped me get in touch with a school hiring English teachers in Beijing. He made the process very easy and communicated well with myself and the school. I was able to ask a lot of questions and felt I was getting honest and thoughtful answers. I would recommend Teach English Global when looking for employment. I taught English for the first time, and it was my first time in China. I was given some preparation advice and also Dan has been in the position of teaching English in China before, so I felt I was getting realistic advice.

Professional and Supportive TEFL Placement with Houhai

Dan was extremely helpful in guiding me through the interview process. He maintained consistent communication, prepared me for the interview, and assisted with the visa process. Even after I arrived in Beijing, Dan continued to check in to ensure everything was going smoothly. Houhai (English Program) operates efficiently, and compared to my previous TEFL experiences, their professionalism and speed were refreshing. Within 30 days, I had my Chinese phone number, apartment, visa, and official training completed. While the process was busy, it was well-organized and greatly appreciated.

For future participants, I recommend bringing a functioning laptop with Microsoft PowerPoint, as it is essential for both training and teaching. Additionally, it’s important to budget for startup costs. You’ll need funds for medical exams, apartment essentials, and other initial expenses. While USD 1,000 is a good starting point, bringing more is advisable if possible. Note that Houhai covers the apartment security deposit, but this is a loan that will be deducted from your first paycheck.

Overall, Houhai is a professional and well-organized agency. Once you complete the orientation process, everything becomes much easier.

Teach English Global is very professional and efficient

Dan was very patient with me and answered all my questions. He even had to set up and cancel a couple of interviews for me because I told him that I didn't want to do them and he politely oblidged. I eventually made it to China with his help and the country was even better than I thought. The standard of living is very high even for the poor but you'll get to experience it as a middle income worker. You will not regret working with Dan or having him on your team. I even met another co-worker who also used Dan's help to get to China and she told me how sweet he was with her.

What was your funniest moment?
The most fun part of living in China is telling Chinese people how the USA has a very low standard of living and them not believing me. China doesn't have homeless people because they solved that by housing everyone so they don't understand the concept of 'homeless people' at all.
Pros
  • Safety and technology
  • Culture and history
  • High purchasing power parity. Even the poor can live with dignity.
Cons
  • extreme weather
  • extreme geography
  • very large insects

Exceptional support from start to finish!

I can’t recommend Teach English Global and Dan highly enough! From the very beginning, he guided me through every step of the visa process and all the necessary preparations for my move to China, making what could have been a stressful experience incredibly smooth.

My initial placement turned out to not be suitable for me, however Dan went above and beyond to help me navigate my contract situation and connected me with a new company that was much better suited to my needs. Even after arriving in China, he has stayed in touch regularly, offering ongoing support and advice, which has been invaluable during my first two months here.

If you’re considering teaching in China, definitely reach out to Dan. He genuinely looks out for the people he helps and makes sure they end up in the right place. I honestly don’t know how I would have managed without him!

Pros
  • Expert guidance: Dan made the visa and relocation process simple and stress-free.
  • Ongoing support: Checks in regularly even after arriving in China
  • Goes the extra mile!

Super helpful, looks out for you.

I’m writing this review having been in China for one week, which wouldn’t have happened without Dan. I’m super thankful to Dan, he helped me out every step of the way, introduced me to a recruitment agency in China and walked me through every step of the visa process and just acted like a good pal the entire way through. I wouldn’t be here without him and I appreciate all his help massively. China’s a difficult country to move to, but Dan’s advice made it a million times easier. He’s a great help, I would definitely recommend for any first time teachers.

Extremely Helpful, couldn’t have it done the move without them

Dan’s help was invaluable to me and my girlfriend upon moving to China for TEFL teaching. He assessed our experience level and pointed us in the right direction , advising agency work with an agency in Shenzhen, and helped us closely every step of the way throughout a complicated VISA process and TEFL/teacher training course. Dan was happy to accept our calls and answer any questions of which there were many with it being our first time teaching abroad. We really couldn’t have done it without him!

Best Recruiter

After extensive research on recruiters, I ultimately chose Teach English Global. Dan responded to my email, sent out my CV, and within a week or so, had already set up an interview with a school in Shanghai.

Seamless.

That's the best word I can use to describe my experience working with Dan. He’s a chill guy and makes sure you're comfortable each step of the way! Visa process was a cake-walk and only took about 5 days before I received my Z Visa.

To anyone still hesitant, give Dan a go. He’ll definitely go above and beyond to help you!

Thanks again, Dan!!

An reliable way in to China

When I decided to think about my next destination in teaching, I was a bit reluctant and nervous about contacting Teach English Global. It was nothing personal, I knew I wanted to try out China but had heard some horror stories regarding recruiters and agencies in China. Also being on the outside, it's hard to find legitimate jobs IN China. However, I found Teach English Global on the same website where I got my TEFL qualification. And it was listed as a partner with my accreditation and two other big-name accreditations in the industry. So I thought it must be reliable.

Talking to Dan I was able to have an honest conversation about my current situation, what I was looking for and what I was not looking for. He made the process very simple and easy - which I've learned about China - is not easy. I was initially taken back by his suggestion about an agency, just because of what I've heard about agencies online and knowing they are on the lower end salary-wise in the industry in China. But I went for it anyway, taking the opportunity instead of wondering what if. And the interview went well, I got positive vibes from the agency. Which was important as I wanted a positive experience to come out of it.

Dan and the agency were very accommodating with my situation as I was in a toxic work environment that led me to quit my job and go home instead of finishing my contract and then possibly moving on to this one. Then when I went home a family member had just passed away which left me questioning whether now was the right time - even if the job wouldn't start for another few months.

The process was easy, Dan and the agency rep would help with the process. Dan with making sure your documents are legalised. The agency with the actual process for the visa. Then in the weeks with the agency prepared me for interviews online with schools.

I'm now within my first few weeks in China - am yet to start the job due to the Spring Festival. And so far have been overwhelmed by the support the agency has given in terms of getting you started in China - stuff that would've been challenging on my own. Any issues I've faced have nothing to do with the agency itself but with how things work in China and the period being before the holidays. This element can be complicated and something that no one can prepare you for.

My only feedback regarding the placement of the agency was that my moving date was asked to be moved earlier last minute (to do with schools), I was originally meant to arrive after the Spring Festival, and this left things a bit harder in getting set up because it was just before the holiday and I had to get a lot ready in a short time before flying out. Also some things talked about in the interview like training - I wasn't provided and other teachers were - however, this could be because I had some experience compared to others so it was a low priority for them with me. The important thing is coming into China the support is there.

I would say overall, Dan is a decent recruiter to go with if you are outside of China and looking for a reliable job in China but can't find anything yourself. I don't know what other kinds of jobs he offers - if they are just agencies or not. But at least the agencies seem trustworthy so far. And he and whoever you end up with will try to simplify the process as much as possible.

Pros
  • Dan is honest and presents reliable and trustworthy options for you
  • He will let you contact other teachers for their experience
  • Can be accommodating about special circumstances
Cons
  • If salary is your main motivation, you probably could find better on your own.
  • Your starting date could be pushed earlier last minute, this is not to do with Dan though.
