Costa Rica Service Learning and Conservation Trip with REEF

About Program
This service learning and conservation-focused trip includes eco-adventures like snorkeling or scuba diving, tours and nature walks through vibrant tropical rainforest and waterfalls, and a wildlife-watching boat trip. Participants will take part in citizen science and conservation activities, such as conducting REEF fish biodiversity surveys and enjoying land tours to learn about tropical ecosystems. The program also features opportunities to participate in exciting Costa Rican explorations, such as learning from famous pottery artisans, zip lining, and exploring volcanic hot springs.
Before the trip, participants will meet as a group with their trip leader via Zoom to explore topics and activities covered during their weeklong expedition. During the trip, participants will participate in citizen science excursions, record biodiversity of wildlife, join in guided activities for daily reflections, and engage in discussions on marine biology and conservation topics.

Program Impact
As a citizen scientist you will be responsible for learning fish identification and behavior of common Costa Rican fish. You data will be entered into a database for scientists, conservationists, and policy makers around the world to acces. You will also be involved in mini-research projects and discussions pertaining to benefits and consequences of eco-tourism and sustainability. You will also be collecting data on bird identification and distribution.
