Australian Internship

I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The first week in Australia really set the tone for the entire trip. The orientation week was located in Cairns, Australia and we got to know the other interns in our home city and other cities as well. We also learned about aboriginal culture and the pride Australians take in it, and we were given an insight on Australian culture and how to decipher the slang used. I stayed in Brisbane, Australia and as a Zoology major I was placed at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. I had a very open learning environment and had hands-on experience with animals I didn't even know existed before going to Australia. I had an insane moment when I saw a baby koala come out of the mothers pouch when I was cleaning the enclosure. The layout of my internship allowed me the time to explore and travel to other cities and even see the North Island of New Zealand. However, before I started traveling I really got to find my way around Brisbane with my Residential Directors help and recommendations. Trivia Tuesdays at Stockies Exchange Hotel never failed us.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would advise getting to know your host city before venturing off. Once you get to know your favorite spots and how to get around without google maps it starts to feel like a version of home. I think this is important because when you do return from flights or train trips you get that feeling of home and routine when you return to your host city.
Pros
  • Gaining experience within academic field of interest
  • Was able to experience a new country with a guiding hand
  • Was offered activities within my host city like surfing
Cons
  • My field of interest is laborious so I would've switched up the hours worked instead of consecutive days
  • Commute going into the city after work with the traffic took longer than anticipated
  • It was difficult leaving at sunrise and returning when it was dark (It was winter so hard to switch that up ;) )

This program changed my life both professionally and personally!

Over this past summer, I interned in Sydney, Australia. This experience has changed my life, I was able to make friends all over the world, understand how I react in certain situations, pushed my limits, able to get creative and gain real-world experience in my field of study. TEAN does an amazing job of personalizing everyone's trip abroad. They have employees working in the host cities to help with anything you may need. Where can I get the best dumplings in town? Are there any secret bars in Sydney? I have a cold where can I get medicine under health insurance? I stayed in a hotel with a kitchenette in the heart of Sydney. My hotel was very accommodating and in a perfect location. I had the summer of my life and I HIGHLY encourage others to take the leap and intern abroad.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Reach out to TEANS resources! There's an abundance of help they offer so make sure you reach out when you need anything.

Unforgettable Summer Experience

I have had the privilege of study abroad (2018) and interning abroad (2019) with TEAN. The experiences that I have had with them have been a dream come true. From the start, the application to both programs were easy to understand; any questions that I had while doing them were answered quickly by the friendly and supportive staff. The first few weeks of both experiences began with an incredible orientation: fun activities, time to meet new people and of course learning the culture of the country. After orientation, the studying and interning began. I quickly grew to love the cities that I was living in; the support of TEAN staff made sure that I new all the ins and outs to make sure that I was having the best experience. I must admit, TEAN made it hard to say goodbye and head home; why would someone want to leave a paradise experience? If you are looking for a program to study or intern abroad, TEAN will be the one you.

A Once in a Lifetime Experience!

My summer interning in New Zealand through TEAN was truly one I will never forget. The application and interview process supported by TEAN’s excellent staff was smooth and I was placed in the appropriate field in which I wanted to gain work experience. I had a blast on the orientation with the other interns; it was a great way to make new friends and get to see the country before settling into the internship. I lived in a beautiful apartment that TEAN organized with other interns, balanced working hard during the week and exploring NZ on the weekends, and established connections with my supervisors. I learned so much about my field, gained real-world skills, and pushed myself out of my comfort zone. It was a summer full of personal and professional growth and I highly recommend TEAN!

Most Rewarding Experience

I loved my internship experience in Australia! The first week at the Cairns orientation was spectacular! We went snorkeling and diving in the Great Barrier reef, went on a walk through the rainforest with an Aboriginal guide, and had a chance to skydive, raft, bungee jump, or hot air balloon. My internship in stem cell research was really beneficial for furthering my education and experience and I know it will help my resume and graduate school application be more competitive. I also had a great time in Adelaide going to Australian Football games, going to the beach, spending time in wine country, and spend time in the city center. The TEAN staff were amazing and always there if I needed help or support! The local TEAN staff in Adelaide had great connections and coupons to get discounted or free meals or events. I will always remember the sites I saw and the friends I met!

Internship Down Under: Perth, Australia

My internship this past fall has been, and always will be one of the most memorable times in my life. I was able to work at a sports trainer / first aid in Perth. Australia. I worked with kids of all different ages and that played all different sports such as Australian football, soccer, basketball, netball, etc. This internship provided me with different techniques that I will continue to use during my life and career path from now on. The atmosphere was perfect, the people were extremely friendly and I felt like this place was my second home. Overall, I will highly recommend this program and this country to anyone who is considering either. I also want to thank TEAN and everyone else who helped me experience the best three months of my life.

What would you improve about this program?
I would change nothing about this program. Overall, everything was good and ideal to help me experience the wonders of Australia.

Summer Internship in Australia

My experience interning with TEAN was truly once in a lifetime. As a statistics major with the desire to work in Sport Analytics, I was unsure of the availability of a position for me, especially on the other side of the world. However, TEAN found a great opportunity for me in Perth with the Athletic Institute, which enabled me to strengthen my interpersonal and analytical skills, all while learning and working with an Aussie Rules Football Club. One main aspect of interning abroad that I loved was the complete immersion. I was spending my time immersed in Aussie culture, and was able to learn a lot about how they live their lives. I was also lucky enough to have housing right next to Kings Park, a great place to relax or go for a jog. Reflecting back, I have become much more confident and independent as a person, and have great memories which will last a lifetime.

Perfect Internship Placement

I completed a sports medicine internship in Perth, Australia through TEAN. The whole entire experience was so amazing! I loved my placement which was working with a Western Australia Football League team. I learned a lot of hands on skills while being immersed in the sports culture of Australia. TEAN did such a good job providing me with support throughout the whole process. Their staff was friendly and helpful and TEAN also took care of a lot of the logistics allowing me to enjoy my internship and Australia without stress. Perth was a safe city with a relaxed atmosphere. The people were friendly and I made many friends with the other interns and local Australians. Overall, I loved my internship placement in Perth that TEAN found for me. I highly recommend TEAN for helping you complete an internship abroad because they find the best placement for you and your interests.
