CEA CAPA Internships in Seville, Spain

Embarking on a study abroad journey is a challenge in itself, but participating in an internship abroad adds another layer of complexity. When I decided to join CEA CAPA's Study+Internship program in Seville, Spain, I was prepared to step out of my comfort zone and embrace an entirely new experience; however, no amount of preparation could fully brace me for my first day at work. Surrounded by people speaking a different language, understanding different cultural norms, and operating under a different work system, I felt extremely out of place.
During the first couple of weeks, doubts clouded my mind, questioning if this program was really the right fit for me. Assigned to assist teachers across six classes with students ranging from 4 to 16 years old, each with varying English proficiency levels, I found myself unsure about how to connect with them. Teaching English was uncharted territory for me, and while I desired to forge connections with the students, I lacked the know-how to do so. Gradually, I mustered the courage to step out of my shell and engage more actively with both teachers and students. I learned to celebrate small victories, setting daily goals to connect with specific students. With time, my confidence grew, and I leaned on my teacher mentors for guidance and constructive feedback. Some teachers even provided opportunities for me to push my boundaries by designing and leading educational games for the students. Though far from flawless, the practice of designing and leading lessons, assessing the effectiveness of each one proved extremely valuable.
While not every moment was filled with joy, the dedication invested in engaging and improving within the internship role will provide extreme benefits in the long run. I felt like I jumped off the deep end with this experience, but the unwavering support and encouragement from both teachers and the CEA CAPA staff enabled me to push beyond my comfort zone and achieve success.

I studied abroad with CEA CAPA in Sevilla, Spain during the Fall 2023 semester and had an incredible experience. I participated in a study and internship program and highly recommend it to other students, especially business students who are interested in working internationally in the future. The CEA CAPA team worked to make sure I found an internship that fit me and checked in throughout my program to see my progress. Their team is dedicated and genuinely cares about their students. The CEA Capa internship program in Sevilla, Spain was a wonderful experience in personal growth, academic and professional experiences, and cultural immersion. Through my time with CEA, I took one class on global communication which was an eye opening view on how to approach cultural differences in a variety of setting. I also had an internship in which I got let into the stress free atmosphere of the Spanish workplace. CEA also organized events to highlight an area of Sevilla's culture. My host mom was the sweetest (so was the cat) and engages me and my roommate in cultural conversations and showed us her favorite places in Sevilla (we ate at her favorite restaurant 6 times). It was a great program and I great way to experience life in Sevilla. Everyone was kind, warm, accommodating, and excited to share Sevilla with us.

Studying abroad with CEA CAPA in Spain was such an amazing experience. From the beginning of enrolling in the program, I felt such a support system from CEA. They worked with me from before I even arrived and had me prepared by the summer came. Once I arrived, they walked me through every step of adjusting. They had scheduled excursions for us throughout the country and events in the city that really helped us immerse in the culture. I would recommend studying abroad in Seville, Spain to anyone and especially with CEA CAPA

Seville, Spain, is a captivating city that has a charming blend of rich history, vibrant nightlife, and a warm community. Tapa places are at every corner, and so are shoe stores and ice cream places. While Seville's heat in the summer is mind boggling, the cultural tradition of siestas help avoid the heat. A truly exceptional destination for those seeking a transformative international program. The memories you make will last you a life time and the friends you will make from all walks of life!!!

I did not want to Study Abroad. I am a person that likes to feel comfortable. Living in another country for 3 months, with a new language, and all new people to say that was uncomfortable would be an understatement. However, I was not alone in these feelings. Everyone came with an open mind, CEA was extremely helpful and available in a time of need, and my program got very close very quickly. I learned that it's totally normal to have those feelings of discomfort and you're not alone. I ended up having the most incredible time!

My experience with CEA was unique in the fact that I pursued the opportunity to study/intern abroad the summer after my senior year. The CEA staff was unbelievably helpful from the moment I applied, to the moment I stepped foot in Spain. They guided me through changing program locations & ensured that I was prepared predeparture. Not only that, but I had onsite staff abroad eager to help with any obstacles that arose. I concluded my internship with greater confidence in many aspects of my life, professional & personal. I would recommend CEA 10/10 for anyone looking to step outside their comfort zone & challenge themselves to learn in an unfamiliar environment.

I could not have asked for a better internship placement. It is exactly in the industry that I want and gave me really valuable insight into non-profit work. The staff I worked under were incredibly kind and patient. They had no problem helping me navigate through my tasks and cultural misunderstandings. I learned so much more than technical skills. My on-site staff at CEA (my coordinator Caro and professor Kevin) were so helpful and helped me keep going even when the semester got really hard. It was really interesting to see how culture impacts the work environment. Everyone was very flexible with my schedule so that I could work, attend classes and travel on my weekends. I also enjoyed the excursions CEA took us on in southern Spain and in Morrocco.
