refreshing live expirience, but a little poor in terms of work

The experience has been great in a whole. Although that because of the social part of my stay. The internship part hasn't been as good as I expected and I haven't learned so much ( I did learn some things).

What would you improve about this program?
It could be improved in the sense of trying to make sure the companies need someone to actually work hard and learn their way of solving problems.

over all was a good experience life and Professional.

-Doing some research very difficult to use Chinese website because all their research is base on internet they don't have the material like books references.

-survey on site,

-project a group work difficult to understand if you don't speak Chinese.

-assist to the actual project, assist the meeting and presentation of work.
-doing a real project in group work. would like to have constructive critics about the individual.

My experience

I have enjoyed my time in China, being in Beijing is definitely an experience and I have visited some great tourist desinations on my days off, but unfortunately in terms of my internship I have not gotten much out of it at all.

My China Experience

Everyday here in Beijing brings a new adventure and some hurdles to overcome. First of all there is the language barrier and also the cultural difference to Europe. You have to extremely adapt to everydays new challenges in order to personally grow and in order to make your experience much better. My personal highlights here at work were that I was able to attend all these fairs my company had organized which allowed me to network with people all around the world. Also the working climate was very good with nice people who helped me to do my everyday work. Beijing is such a great city, there is so much history and things to and I made a lot of friends. All of that and the bundle of great experience I will take back home made my stay here unforgettable.

What would you improve about this program?
I felt like there was some kind of lack in communication between Gi2C and the company I work for in the beginning. I would have appreciated to also get in touch with my company directly before meeting them the first day to know that to expect. Also I thought the cost for only internship was quite high compared to other internships here in China as we cant really see where all our money has gone. Nevertheless I really liked that Gi2C organised some events for the internship group to better get to know each other as a first step to make new friends.

The activities and social clubs during weekends should be more interesting and effective

You should arrange something more interesting social activities as I wish to have more connections with the other foreigners and also local people. Some places which I have seen that are not interested to go, for example Zhujiajiao Water Town. If you want to arrange a small of group tour, I think it's better to go to Happy Valley (Amusement Park) and somewhere is more Asian and more traditional town, such as Qibao town.

Gi2C Beijing Finance Internship

I really enjoyed my time in Beijing, especially the social aspect with the other interns at Gi2C. The city is fantastic with lots to do including visiting the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. On the downside I was only at my job for one month so feel I did not have long enough to really get involved in big financial deals and a lot of what I did was not that useful for my future career. However, I did learn a lot about Chinese business culture and I feel the experience will be very useful in the future.

What would you improve about this program?
My placement company was not ideal as it was a small business with not many English speaking employees. This stopped me getting the most out of the internship

Broaden Your Horizons

I am older than most interns. I have been to 16 countries, and have lived in three where English is not the primary language. You might say I have some life experience that is relevant to an internship in China. In the beginning, I kept a mental note of how it seemed every single day I was confronted with a new obstacle to overcome. For example: my electronic key wouldn't work to let me in the housing compound, there are no dryers readily available for finishing your laundry, I could not get to the post office during working hours, etc. . . . Oh, and I couldn't speak the language -- even to communicate basic needs.

Whether big or small, these hurdles came at me on a regular basis. I learned to work through them and built a custom-made Chinese set of solutions, which included: patience, determination, letting go, and Chinese friends who spoke (some) English. I took language classes twice a week for the first couple months, I found a translation app on one of the country's social networking sites. In short, I learned to adapt.

What I am coming away with is nearly 2,500 photos of my time here, innumerable memories, and a great boost to my resume. I am pursuing a Masters in Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance. This is the sort of work I wanted to do when I applied to Gi2C, and this is largely what I did. In the most general sense, I was put to work in a company researching new fields (particularly in the Technology and Finance sectors), and reporting to my boss on how their growing investment company could find opportunities for wealth creation outside of China.

Those who live in New York City like to claim: "If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere." Well, I have never lived in New York (though I've made many trips there), but I think a more accurate assessment is: "If you can make it in Beijing without speaking the language, you can make it anywhere." (It really wasn't so bad, I'm merely exaggerating . . .) But the point is, this country has a lot to offer, and Gi2C is an excellent way to get your foot in the door!

What would you improve about this program?
Well, my complaints or constructive criticism is personal and probably would not apply to interns as a whole. The only thing that sticks out in my mind (and it’s only a minor consideration), is that I could not get a prorated fee for my language classes. I had so many things occupying my time, I opted to stop going to class – so that I could find a little free, “unscheduled” time in my life. When I asked if I could get a refund for that month of classes I did not use, the answer was that it’s too complicated and not negotiable. Again, almost not worth mentioning, but in a cost-benefit analysis, it is an unnecessary cost that could not be avoided.
