Originally from a small town in Canada, Jay completed his Business Degree then decided to do some world exploring before starting his career. What started out as a 3-month backpacking trip around Asia, turned into a 2.5 year round the world trip with a year spent working and travelling around Australia tucked in the middle.

Upon returning home to Canada, the travel itch was worse than ever, and upon discovering Global Work & Travel - an internationally-based company (Canada, the UK & Australia) that specializes in turning travel dreams into reality and providing life-changing work & travel experiences - it was a no-brainer for Jay. Being a part of this organization was his destiny!

What is your favorite travel memory?

Getting stranded on a small island, popular for backpackers, off the coast of Cambodia. A big storm blew in off the mainland coast shortly after arriving to the island, which 'forced' us, and the 20 odd other international travellers, to stay longer than planned. Our days were spent exploring the natural beauty of the island and playing beach volleyball, followed by nights around a bonfire sharing stories and laughs over some bevis, and a moonlit swim amongst bright glowing bioluminescence - it was a dream!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Although I've definitely grown professionally and personally throughout my career, my passion for travel and adventure has never changed - it's still as huge as ever. And that's one thing the Global Work & Travel team has always had in common, a huge passion for travel and helping others experience the world in a meaningful way.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

A few years ago I recall one of our travellers who nearly backed out from following through with their trip due to a tough break up a month before departure. With a bit reassurance and encouragement from a couple amazing members of our team, she decided to go for it. Next thing you know, she was sending us back photos of her and all the new friends she had made within weeks of arriving to Canada on her working holiday. And next minute (a year or so into her trip) - she had met the love of her life and they got engaged atop a snowy mountain on a crystal clear bluebird day. Talk about the many crossroads in life!

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Having grown up in a family of educators, our Teach English trips have always been a favourite of mine. Not only do you gain an international teaching certificate and an opportunity to earn an income overseas, you get to experience an amazing culture in an incredibly unique and rewarding way (..plus getting to try a bunch of new yummy food..oh the food!).

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

The people, the passion, the care factor. The 'human' side of our company has always been major contributor to our success and growth over the years. As many of our customers are first-time travellers to their destination or trip style, they often require that voice of reassurance and a helping hand who actually cares about them and the outcome of their experience overseas.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Constantly providing elite customer service by carefully managing expectations, then going above and beyond to deliver the travel experience of a lifetime. Staying ahead of the curve with innovative technology to make customers' lives easier is also important these days, particularly in the youth travel market!
