Couldn't Have Been Better

Studying abroad in London with IES was the best decision I could have ever made. I need six more credits to graduate in August and what better way to do that then by studying abroad in a city I've dreamed about studying British culture. The program is very well organized and the orientation definitely helps you gather your footing the first couple of days. The professors are the best I've ever had, I wish could have taken more classes with them.

Without a Doubt The Best Summer of My Life

I loved studying with IES. They made our summer incredibly fun and memorable. SInce studying with IES, I have studied with another program in a different location, and I have truly come to appreciate how special of a program is was. The staff truly felt like my own friends by the end of the summer, and they would go above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and answered all of our questions. The classes always held my interest and made me truly appreciate Britisha nd London culture. The living situation wasn't perfect, but it was nice for the amount of time we lived there. The trips IES had organized for us to take were absolutely wonderful. They hire the best, funniest, and most interesting tour guides and really aim to make each trip memorable, while still allowing for free time to do some exploring on your own. I never felt unsafe in the city, no matter what time of night, and I felt prepared to handle it if any problems did arise based on our safety orientation at the beginning of the trip.

I could not recommend any other program more than I do IES. They are a fantastic program and made preparation and transitions painless. I would absolutely study with them again if I was given the opportunity.

A great way to experience London

The program coordinators encouraged full immersion into London with helpful tips and excursions. Nido Spitalfields is a safe, clean, and comfortable dorm located in a vibrant area. The commute to class was simple with easy tube access. Classes were manageable and the professors were engaging. I learned more than I anticipated and lessons informed my new world view. The program allows you to experience all that London has to offer.

What would you improve about this program?
Some courses were a bit challenging at points in the semester, but if you keep up with your work the projects shouldn't be a problem.

London will become a part of you

The Study London Program through IES Abroad is a small, one of a kind program. The classes consist of no more than 15 people and you truly get to know everyone including the teachers. The program is easy to adjust to and you have plenty of free time. The teachers are engaging and the classes are 90% focused on just London, which makes living in the city a lot more interesting and valuable. Even though people speak English in London you still feel abroad. My most memorable experiences were the theatres and markets. Both are great way to tackle the city in a focused way because the theatres are surrounded by really good restaurants and packed pubs. The accommodations are insanely nice, Nido is 33 floors with a gym on the top floor (great view) an students from all of the world live there. All accommodations are located close to a tube and I had my own room and shared a kitchen and bathroom. I seriously cannot wait to go back. The staff are extremely helpful and understanding also.

Good way to experience London

IES administrators are very helpful and encourage travel and exploration of the city. Living situation and IES building are incredibly centrally located in the city, and living in Nido was a great way to meet people from all over the world. Academics were challenging and fun, and no class on Fridays. IES fieldtrips were also a great way to see the UK without the hassle of planning!

What would you improve about this program?
In general, if you're looking for a very independent, self-sufficient experience studying abroad and don't need or want to be under the wing of your program's administrators, this program might not be right for you. Also, don't expect the academics to be a breeze! The professors demand a lot and the workload is more time consuming than you might be led to believe from others' study abroad experiences. If you're opposed to a small inner-city apartment with shared kitchen and bathroom, you also won't enjoy living in Nido.

Love London!

I loved living in London, its like my second home now! My advisors were very nice and helpful, and I was able to do a couple of group trips such as one to Stonehenge and Bath. Make sure to hit up Nando's and Bella Italia if you go! Those were our favorrrrrite restaurants. Hyde park is a great place to relax in in the evenings, and Piccadilly Circus is great to stroll around in the afternoons.

What would you improve about this program?
Living accomodations. IES doesn't allow students to live with different sexes in the Nido building, even though the Nido's policy is that it is okay. This was annoying and my boyfriend and I had to keep going back and forth everyday to each other's rooms. Management at Nido was terrible as well. Don't expect your complains to have any value to them.

Wonderful Study Abroad Experience

I absolutely loved my time in London with this program. They scheduled trips for the group throughout the semester which were fun. You had to pay for them but for all the things we did it was definitely worth it. Class was also fun. I think that they have a good variety on the types of classes you can take. I took one on British Youth Culture and it turned out to be my favorite. It was cool to learn about the culture while living in it.
London itself is a wonderful city to explore. There is so much to do from visiting all the historical places to exploring its night life. I had an internship and it was the highlight of my semester. My workplace was great and being able to experience their work culture was a unique experience. It also helped be better assimilate to the culture. I loved my time in London.

What would you improve about this program?
I would change the housing, which actually has changed. I lived with all other American students and I think it would be nice to have a more mixed cultural living situation.

IES London

I loved all of the classes that I took. The professors were excellent, and although they weren't too challenging, I learned a lot. The staff was wonderful as well and was quick to help me with any problems that I encountered. My internship experience interests a lot of employers that I'm applying to right now. All in all, it was a great semester getting to know one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

What would you improve about this program?
I was not a big fan of the housing, but they have changed it since I completed the program so it may be better now. There was also not a big opportunity to make friends outside of the Americans in your program, although that might be hard with any London study-abroad program.
