Diversity & Inclusion

BIPOC Support

CEA CAPA provides, in conjunction with Diversity Abroad, Destination Guides which provide resources and tips for Black/African-American students, Latinx students, Asian American students, and all other students of color.

LGBTQIA+ Support

Through our personalized advising, CEA CAPA takes steps to understand the needs of a diversity of student identities like the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition to diversity and identity training, CEA CAPA leadership engage in continuous department level project work to identify and revise policies and practices using the appropriate Justice, Equity, Diversity or Inclusion lens as a frame to reduce bias and barriers that impact students, faculty, and staff. CEA CAPA is intentional in elevating diverse student voices and providing a platform for a broad array of identities to share their experiences abroad. The CEA CAPA World Blog promotes stories and personal experiences from the perspectives of diverse student bloggers and vloggers.

Neurodivergent Support

CEA CAPA is willing and able to assist students with learning disabilities and physical disabilities. Students are requested to disclose disabilities through the application health forms as part of their application and in discussion with their application advisor or program manager. The earlier CEA CAPA is made aware of learning or physical disabilities the better we can work with the student, institution, and overseas team to tailor an Individualized Education Program if necessary to support the student.

Impact

Sustainability

CEA CAPA makes a conscious effort to create study abroad experiences that leave a positive impact on host communities. Each location implements a variety of strategies to support the local community and promote sustainability. Examples include:

Use of recycling bins in Study Center locations and in CEA CAPA housing

Signage in CEA CAPA housing urging students to limit water and electricity usage

Students are often given reusable bags and water bottles upon arrival to limit single plastic use

Students are provided with instructions for acquiring transportation passes to promote use of public transportation rather than taxis

Overall Great Experience

Like any study abroad experiences there are going to be ups and downs but the program CEA in Paris France is able to help you navigate through the complexities of the transitions. The classes might have been a little bit harder than I was expecting but nothing that wasn't unmanageable. The staff were very friendly and approachable so any questions I might have had could be easily answered. My only criticism would be that I think there could have been more done to introduce the students to one another to make it easier to branch out an meet new people.

La Vie en France

Taking a leap of faith in coming to Paris, I could not be happier with my experiance. Especially with how much I have grown as an independant individual. Getting to know locals and making friends in the city and in my dorm has made contacts that I will have for the rest of my life. I know I will be back here soon, and don't want my experiance to end. Greatful for this opportunity. Taking a leap of faith in coming to Paris, I could not be happier with my experiance. Especially with how much I have grown as an independant individual. Secrets of Paris

I really really enjoyed the semester overall! We got to participate in lots of adventures with the program. At the end of the semester I was able to present what I had learned this semester to my peers and get to see what they had worked on as well. This entire program was such an amazing experience and I met so many wonderful people through it. I lived in a dorm and was able to meet a lot of international students and learn about their lives and it was really great!

What would you improve about this program?
I think my only recommendation is maybe how the money is spent and seeing more directly going towards our experience.

My first croissant in Paris

I've always had a thing for croissants. As a child, I remember eating a croissant from Dunkin' Donuts for breakfast a disturbing amount meals. But when I came to Paris, my life was changed forever.
I remember that first croissant so vividly. It was so deliciously-buttery and flaky, and it wasn't any plain old croissant--it was a croissant au jambon. I still have dreams about it. I don't think I will ever be able to eat a croissant in America ever again.

CEA Paris

I really enjoyed my experience studying abroad in Paris, France. The teachers are very nice and are willing to work with you about course work. The CEA Paris Headquaters in Paris is in a very nice neighborhood. I wish that CEA had more of a community building thing because there are individuals in this program that I do not know. I cannot wait to spend another semester in Paris with CEA! YAY I cannot wait!

What would you improve about this program?
I wish there was more of community building experience because I do not know many of these individuals in this program.

CEA

I had a great time with cea Paris. The program was very small however and very cliquey, which was sometimes difficult. I had some really amazing professors however and felt I learned a lot. The staff was pretty helpful if the problem wasnt major but i sometimes felt they could have done more but wouldnt. thats partly french culture however and needs to be taken into account. overall i would do it all again though

What would you improve about this program?
more programming to bring students together

I miss you everyday, Paris.

Studying abroad in Paris with CEA was one of the most amazing experiences, if not the best, of my life. There is not a single day that goes by when I do not miss it!

I dreamed of visiting Paris ever since I was ten, and finally got to go ten years later when I was twenty. Prior to my departure, I felt very nervous, anxious, and excited. CEA did a wonderful job working with me before I left, while I was abroad, and even after I returned. The team at HQ in Phoenix, AZ was available to answer every one of my emails and phone calls when I felt stressed about all the little things I needed to do before departing. They provided me with helpful information, and reassured me. On-site in Paris, the staff was wonderful. In particular, Anne-Cecile, is a gem. She greets everyone with a wonderfully positive attitude everyday at the CEA center, and seems to have an answer to all the students' questions. Anne-Cecile and I had the opportunity to even go and do some community service with an NGO called AutreMonde in Paris, which proved to be a unique volunteer experience, and still equally rewarding. Even when the attacks of November 13th occurred, I remember that the CEA team on-site immediately worked to ensure that students were unharmed and accounted for. They responded quickly to the situation, and offered students the support and resources we needed. I ultimately decided to remain in Paris following the attacks, and continued to appreciate every day and every minute that I had left before the end of my program. After returning to the states, I felt anxious to stay connected to my abroad experience. To this day, I still maintain a relationship with CEA and continue to dream of the day that I'll return to Paris!

What would you improve about this program?
I wished there were more opportunities for CEA students to mingle with other international/French students, and feel more integrated into society.

Paris

I had an amazing time, and I have to say the CEA staff definitely played a major role. Unfortunately in August the social scene was not as great as I expected, but CEA outings were always fun and informative. The housing was nice, there were a couple of students but not too many that we got to make friends with. Room was okay, for the future it might be better to put roommates together who aren't from the same school (and hometown) so that students get to expand their social circle.
