CIEE Open Campus - Rome and Madrid

I had the most amazing time studying abroad specifically with this program with CIEE. I never had been out of the country so it was very important for me to choose a program that was there every step of the way with guidance and support. I also wanted to be in a program with immersive and interactive courses which is what CIEE provided. Another amazing aspect of studying with CIEE is the ability to do activities and meet other students in the program! Overall, I had such an amazing experience because of this amazing program.

Pros
  • great locations and multiple locations
  • flexible class schedule
  • interactive program
Cons
  • housing can be far away
  • smaller program

CIEE Summer in Rome Review

My experience was amazing and I got a lot of help from the local CIEE staff which made me feel comfortable. Our housing situation was unique from the rest of the CIEE students which was not the fault of the CIEE staff because they weren't aware that our apartment would not have sufficient requirements and some negatives. The staff tried their best to make us feel comfortable as they knew we were there without our families. The excursions provided by CIEE were the best as they took us to places we would want to go anyway but even pay for them as well as provided food on certain occasions as well as transportation.

Amazing semester in Rome!

I made an incredible decision spending my semester abroad with CIEE in Rome. The campus itself is in a prime location -- right in the historical center of the city, and surrounded by incredible sights and places to eat. I particularly enjoyed the classes I took in art history and Roman history, as most of our classes were held on-site at archaeological sites, churches, museums, historical points of interest, and so on. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking to immerse themselves in Roman history and Italian culture!

CIEE Summer in Rome

My study abroad experience was unique because I only did a four week program. This forced me to adapt much quicker to the scene knowing I would be leaving so quickly. I also took the opportunity to do this program alone - while many other individuals tend to go abroad with friends. With CIEE, I was able to learn and engage with Italian cinema, learn Italian in the classroom and utilize it in social settings for assessment, and go on trips to emerge in other areas of Italian life! I loved this!!!

Pros
  • Great leadership from teachers and CIEE staff.
  • Get to travel and engage in a new culture.
  • Make some lifelong friends!
Cons
  • Too short):
  • Some confusion leading up to program beginning with financials, what is included, etc
  • The housing we were put in was adequate, but not as nice as other CIEE students.

Opportunity of a lifetime

I was able to study abroad in Rome, Italy for three blocks through CIEE my junior year of college. I have wonderful memories of learning to order at a café near my school for a class project in beginning Italian, meeting wonderful friends, enjoying delicious cuisine, and traveling throughout Italy as well as to Denmark, Switzerland, and Greece. I had such a special and wonderful experience thanks to CIEE that I now represent the program at my university! From CIEE, you can expect academic excellence, student support from directors & staff, and travel opportunities. I highly recommend this program.

Pros
  • Amazing housing location
  • Lived nearby school
  • Travel throughout Italy included in the program

Study Abroad in Roma, la città eterna!

This previous spring semester, I had the chance to study abroad with CIEE in Rome, Italy. To say the least, it was life-changing. I went abroad knowing essentially no one, and got paired with roommates from an entirely different university - not to mention the language barrier. Despite all of this, CIEE made this experience the most amazing 4 months of my life. The on-site classes and activities provided an immersive educational experience, but I was also able to travel to prioritize things like traveling, exploring new cultures, and having fun!

Pros
  • The best food - not an exaggeration
  • Rich history
  • Not too expensive
Cons
  • Public transportation

Spending a Semester in Rome

I absolutely loved my time abroad in Rome through CIEE. I was placed in an apartment in the neighborhood of Prati with 6 random roommates who ended up becoming some of my closest friends. My apartment was in such a good location of only being a 30 minute (at most) walking distance to anything I needed while also being in a slower and quiet area. I never once felt unsafe walking around the city or to/from my apartment. The CIEE staff was a good mix of locals and other works who ensured that I felt confident in everything that I was unsure about. CIEE offered plenty of unique activities to do throughout the weeks and weekends that I would have never found out about by myself. The classes were taught by local professors who genuinely cared about their students and what we were learning and made sure that everyday in class was fun and exciting. Study abroad changed not only how I view the world, but how I view myself and I am so grateful for the opportunity.

Pros
  • Immersive Culture
  • Connections
  • Supported
