Spring Semester in Gold Coast, Australia

My semester in Gold Coast, Australia was about one of the coolest things I have ever done! I got to travel all throughout Australia and to parts of Asia and New Zealand. I saw so many iconic sites, animals, and pretty places while I was there. The scenery is genuinely so breathtaking. I met so many amazing people from all different backgrounds, and made life long friendships while I was there. If you are looking to go abroad, definitely consider going with TEAN as they are a great program to go through! They are so supportive, and help you every step of the way. Overall, I cannot recommend going abroad enough!

Pros
  • The beaches and the weather
  • Meeting new people
  • Experiencing exciting new adventures
Cons
  • There aren't many trains or buses as ways to travel, so the only way to really travel is by plane.

Bond University

I was consumed by anxiety as I prepared to embark on my Australian adventure. Yet, the experience transcended all expectations, emerging as the most extraordinary period of my life. I forged an enduring friendship with an individual who I am still close with. The privilege of exploring Australia's rich history through dedicated coursework was an invaluable opportunity. Each sunrise, I reveled in the spectacle of sunrise as I ran along the coast. Residing on campus facilitated unforgettable encounters with a diverse array of locals. My time in Australia is an irreplaceable treasure, and I implore everyone to seize the chance to study abroad there.

My experience at Griffith Uni

It was so much fun! Gold Coast has a great social scene and there are many activities for students living on campus to socialize and make friends. I would recommend making sure your go card (public transportation) always has money on it and to connect it to your student card as people do check and you can get in trouble for it! I also recommend brining less clothes than you think you’ll need as there is lots of shopping in the area! We all had trouble finding places to donate all the stuff we couldn’t bring home

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Vegimite and kangaroo meat!
Pros
  • Nightlife
  • Transportation
  • Academics
Cons
  • Unpredictable weather
  • Missed food from home
  • Housing can vary

Memories that will last a lifetime

From the orientation at the Great Barrier Reef to the nonstop laughs in the dorms, I truly had the best time on the Gold Coast with TEAN. Writing this review makes me want to book another flight back. My two onsight trip leaders were great resources and very helpful when it came to acclimating to an entirely different country. Australia is an amazing country, but I believe it's the people who make the place. This program came with the best people and let me meet the greatest people. Go start your adventure!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Kangaroo, crocodile, and emu tartar... and I liked all of it. Definitely made me feel guilty when I saw kangaroos around, but it was sooo good! We tasted all three of these our first week in Australia during our orientation. Very funny memory to see everyone around the table apprehensively approach each food, but something I would definitely eat again.
Pros
  • great location
  • adventure based activities
  • laid back atmosphere
Cons
  • Program manager was slow at responding before trip

Gold Coast

My semester in Gold Coast was one of the best things I have ever done. I learned so much about different cultures that have come from all over the world to this one area and I was able to live a different lifestyle from what I was used to in the best way possible. I got to explore new places, food, wildlife, and traditions, all while meeting new friends that I will have forever. I would recommend this program to anyone who asks and could tell stories about all of the things I got to experience that I had only dreamed of.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. He will be faced with so many different experiences that you likely had never thought you would have the chance to do. Even if you are a little bit scared, trying something new is priceless and it is how I created some of the best memories.
Pros
  • Amazing support and housing
  • Extremely beautiful nature/wildlife
  • Always felt safe
Cons
  • Area did feel a little touristy
  • Schooling was almost all online
  • Would’ve liked to be a bit closer to campus

Gold Coast, Australia... Best Place on Earth

I fell in love with Australia the second I touched down in the Airport. I could literally feel the Aussie vibe just in that airport, everyone was so happy and nice and helpful, it was such a noticeable change in pace. I am so obsessed with the lifestyle of Australia, especially the Gold Coast that I fully plan on moving back there post-grad, not a day goes by I don't think about it. I created the most amazing life day-to-day there, from sunrise beach walks, to the farmers market, to going out for food and drinks at restaurants right alongside the water, it was perfect. If you like to live an outdoorsy, fit, happy, and healthy life, would highly recommend the Gold Coast! I could not have asked for a better experience.

Pros
  • Weather
  • Beach
  • Nicest, healthiest, happiest people
Cons
  • Far Away
  • Different school style
  • Expensive

For Future Study Abroad Students:
As you embark on your university journey abroad, it's crucial to strike a balance between academic pursuits and personal enjoyment. While choosing courses, make sure to include subjects that genuinely interest you, but be mindful not to overload your schedule with exclusively major courses. Leave room for exploration and flexibility, as this will not only contribute to a more enriching academic experience but also allow you the freedom to enjoy weekends and engage in spontaneous trips.

Unlike the educational system back home, you may find that assessments are fewer in number but more demanding in terms of grading standards. Therefore, it's essential to approach your studies with diligence and a proactive mindset. Additionally, take the time to research and compile a list of places to visit and activities to experience both on and off campus. Having a well-thought-out bucket list can help you make the most of your time abroad, preventing any missed opportunities.

During your stay, time will undoubtedly fly by, and to make the most of this transformative experience, be proactive in socializing. Join clubs, attend events, and strike up conversations with fellow students in your classes. The connections you make and the experiences you share will not only contribute to a more fulfilling academic journey but will also broaden your cultural horizons.

In summary, approach your university experience abroad with a thoughtful blend of academic focus and personal exploration. Be proactive in creating a bucket list, manage your time effectively, and embrace opportunities to connect with people and immerse yourself in the rich cultural tapestry of your host country. Studying abroad is not just about earning a degree but about creating memories that will last a lifetime. So branch off from what your used to/conformable with and go gain new experiences!

Pros
  • Place (close to beach)
  • Weather
  • People are friendly
Cons
  • Food
  • Meal Plan DOES NOT LAST whole semester at all. Some of my friends finished within a month and we get no kitchen.
  • Campus is usually empty on weekends

Incredible opportunity and experience

I was able to study abroad through the TEAN program in Australia even when I thought it wouldn't be possible, and I'm beyond grateful for that. It was my dream to study abroad in Australia and the whole experience was insane!! Bond University is an amazing place for meeting many different people. I made best friends for life here. The Gold Coast is a super convenient location to travel around Australia and I was able to visit Byron Bay, Sydney, Tasmania, and more. I loved the classes as well, I wish I could've taken them all. I also appreciate TEAN's flexibility throughout the application process.
