About Program

Study abroad in Rome and discover la dolce vita - the sweet life. Imagine studying art history as you gaze up at the Sistine Chapel, or learning theology just a few blocks from the Vatican. Life in the Eternal City is an experience of a lifetime you don't want to miss!

Students attend classes at the centrally located CEA CAPA Rome Center, or with CEA CAPA’s partners, the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS) and John Cabot University. Courses at both locations are designed for students of all Italian language levels and are complementary, with business, Italian language, and social sciences taught at CEA CAPA; and politics, philosophy, and Economics taught at LUISS.

In addition to study abroad, the CEA CAPA Internships Abroad, offers you a hands-on, pre-professional experience to help you rise above the competition.

Diversity & Inclusion

BIPOC Support

CEA CAPA provides, in conjunction with Diversity Abroad, Destination Guides which provide resources and tips for Black/African-American students, Latinx students, Asian American students, and all other students of color.

LGBTQIA+ Support

Through our personalized advising, CEA CAPA takes steps to understand the needs of a diversity of student identities like the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition to diversity and identity training, CEA CAPA leadership engage in continuous department level project work to identify and revise policies and practices using the appropriate Justice, Equity, Diversity or Inclusion lens as a frame to reduce bias and barriers that impact students, faculty, and staff. CEA CAPA is intentional in elevating diverse student voices and providing a platform for a broad array of identities to share their experiences abroad. The CEA CAPA World Blog promotes stories and personal experiences from the perspectives of diverse student bloggers and vloggers.

Neurodivergent Support

CEA CAPA is willing and able to assist students with learning disabilities and physical disabilities. Students are requested to disclose disabilities through the application health forms as part of their application and in discussion with their application advisor or program manager. The earlier CEA CAPA is made aware of learning or physical disabilities the better we can work with the student, institution, and overseas team to tailor an Individualized Education Program if necessary to support the student.

Impact

Sustainability

CEA CAPA makes a conscious effort to create study abroad experiences that leave a positive impact on host communities. Each location implements a variety of strategies to support the local community and promote sustainability. Examples include:

Use of recycling bins in Study Center locations and in CEA CAPA housing

Signage in CEA CAPA housing urging students to limit water and electricity usage

Students are often given reusable bags and water bottles upon arrival to limit single plastic use

Students are provided with instructions for acquiring transportation passes to promote use of public transportation rather than taxis

Best Experience

CEA has shown me over and over again that they were the best program I could’ve chosen. First of all our housing is absolutely amazing our apartment is so beautiful and felt like home right away. Also they set me up with the perfect internship and the process was so seamless. I absolutely love the company they helped me find and my internship teacher is one of my favorite teachers i’ve ever had. They are so many pre-planned activities through CEA and everything is so well organized. I have met so many amazing people through this program and the staff are always there to support you!

Pros
  • Great staff that do most of the prior work for you
  • Many trips/activities already planned
  • Place you with perfect internship
Cons
  • website is sort of hard to navigate

An amazing (nearly) 4 months!

I’ve really enjoyed my time in the CEA Rome program. I found that the activities offered were usually well thought out and helped me experience things I might not otherwise have had the chance to. I lived with seven other people and had a small kitchen but otherwise the living situation was good. As for the courses offered, all except one elective will be counted towards my degree which was very important given that not every abroad program actually does that. I wish there had been more opportunities to meet locals, though. We had three “mixers” with some Italian students but I wish there had been a few more.

Overall, I think CEA did a good job preparing us for study abroad in Rome!

Pros
  • Rome has great history
  • The food is great
Cons
  • Living with 7 other people was difficult at times

Cea

I really enjoyed the program, the professors are passionate about teaching and they create an environment for everyone to feel welcome. The courses are a bit more challenging in the sense that we have to learn a lot within the small amount of time that we have in the program. The staff has been helpful during a difficult situation and overall it was a good experience. There are a lot of activities that are planned within the program which is really helpful when trying to get to know Italian culture.

Pros
  • Short program
  • Caring staff
Cons
  • Challenging classes
  • heavy workload

Loved My Time in Rome

Housing wasn't terrific in this program, my apartment of 8 total girls had large shared bedrooms which was great, but it lacked a usable common space and had an extremely small kitchen with no oven (just a toaster oven), so it always felt cramped and inevitably dirty. But the program was fun, classes were Monday-Thursday, so we had plenty of time to explore Rome itself and Europe as a whole. The workload for each class was also pretty light compared to my home university, which was a great sort of break while I still got the credits I needed to graduate on time. And I loved Rome, being surrounded by so much history in a bigger city that had a slower-paced lifestyle.

Pros
  • Monday-Thursday classes, meaning a 3 day weekend for travel/exploring
Cons
  • Got unlucky in the apartment assigned

A life changing experience!

I would recommend CEA to other students without a doubt! I loved the excursions that were included and it gave me an opportunity to get to know other students very well. The classroom environments were great and I felt like I learned a ton! The school is located in a great place and accessible to the city. The public transportation is a bit unreliable but it’s easy to get places by walking. Rome is a great city and will always have a piece of my heart after studying and interning here. Favorite place in Italy!

Pros
  • Food
  • Culture
  • Traveling
Cons
  • Busy
  • Dirty
  • Public transportation

One of the best experiences of my life!

I have had a great experience with CEA Study Abroad in Rome, Italy. CEA does a great job providing us with activity opportunities and trips in order to immerse ourselves in the Italian and specifically Roman culture. I have also enjoyed the academics here. I have had really good professors in all of my classes. There is also enough flexibility with the program in order to accommodate for additional travel as that is something that was a big drive for me to study abroad. Overall, I would highly recommend this program to future students.

  • Flexibility/Ease of travel
