120-hour advanced TESOL training

This training was very valuable in terms of time sufficiency and information provided. The staff is amazing, always ready to help and guide you through the process. The thing I liked is the flexibility of studies. You can work on the program on your own pace, and have a constant support from your tutor. The material is up to date and always relevant. I have previous experience in teaching English as a second language and this program helped me obtain qualification to be able to teach in Canada. Highly recommend!

Pros
  • Great support and useful feedback
  • Informative content
  • Flexible schedule

120 Hour OnTesol

I don't have a teaching background and the course was able to set a foundation, from the onset, to ensure that as a student, I was learning all aspects of the teaching experience. Apart from the curriculum, the covers multi-dimensional factors that could impact a teacher such as learner experience, teaching strategies and different approaches on engaging and eliciting feedback, managing difficult situations etc. The course also provides brilliant support from their administrative team, through assisting students to prepare for job opportunities and in particular preparing for practicums. The tutors are exceptional, very professional and extremely insightful. The team is very approachable and truly demonstrate their support and interest in ensuring students are successful.

Pros
  • Course material is very organized, plenty of support with exception tutors, additional 10 hour training sessions with other students.
  • Sufficient time to complete the course material which includes a significant amount of reference material.
  • Timely feedback and turnaround time on assignments (usually within 24 hours and never beyond 48 hours.
Cons
  • I haven't experienced any issues at this point.

120 hr Advanced TESOL certificate

It was a delightful experience. I enjoyed refreshing my memory with what the course had to offer. The material given was wide scoped and included different media from videos to tutorials to charts. Some of the content had some typo mistakes that could be avoided. The assistance of the tutor was greatly appreciated. The tutor gave target and vivid feedback on each assignment provided. Assignments were well prepared and targeted the course objectives. All in all it was a very helpful course since it was self-paced for someone who is working.

Pros
  • Self pace
  • Constructive feedback

120-Hour OnTESOL Certificate

The course was motivating in content as there was a variety of topics such as second language learning and acquisition, teaching strategies and methodologies, classroom management techniques, ideas on incorporating culture into lessons, etc. The grammar and phonology sections were also comprehensive. In particular, the feedback from the online mentor was detailed and helpful with many suggestions and ideas for improvement of PPP lessons.

One thought is to extend the grammar test at the end of the section so that there are 50 questions or so, instead of 35. Also, more practice with creating PPP lessons for different levels would be especially useful for new teachers of ESL.

In the beginning had my doubts, however the course was surprisingly interesting, informative and motivational! The course syllabuses are very well planned to easily instruct and train a TESOL teacher. I especially like the feedbacks from my tutor. Every feedback was in great detail and very helpful.

120 Hour Advanced TESOL

I was interested in taking this course to further my education in ESL. I was currently a teacher's aid at an elementary school which had a lot of culturally diverse students. I enjoyed teaching these students and wanted to be able to further my education in this field. As a mature student, I found this course was a great fit with my busy schedule because I could learn at my own pace. The tutor I had was fantastic, very professional and knowledgable. He gave great feedback and was always very quick at getting back to me with any questions I had. During my student teaching practicum, I found the sections on lesson planning very valuable for student teaching as well. I was a little hesitant of the online format but it was very well laid out and the information and videos provided were very practical. I would highly recommend this course!

Pros
  • learn at your own pace
  • great tutors
  • practical information

Coventry House International - OnTESOL

This course is fairly good value for money. I would not recommend it for someone who has little to no teaching experience. However, it does meet the conditions of Languages Canada, so graduates who successfully complete the course, a practicum and have a bachelor's degree will be able to work in vetted language schools in Canada. It will also be accepted internationally to teach in most types of organizations. Support during the course from tutors could be improved - this is very much a self-directed program. Admin support and communications could be better as well. If you want to save the expense of a paid practicum, you will need to arrange it yourself.

Pros
  • Inexpensive
Cons
  • Poor support and communication

Response from OnTESOL

Thank you for your feedback, Meghan. A few months after you finished the online TESOL course, we upgraded our courses with the new LIVE 10-hour Lesson Planning Workshop. We saw that the original format of the online course was quite self-directed. Even though tutors are available to answer questions, our surveys indicated that sometimes students don’t know what to ask or would prefer to have a tutor explain the material in a lesson. For this reason, we launched the new workshop-style lectures, which are offered by our Senior Trainers via Zoom to explain the methods and lesson planning frameworks covered in the online TESOL course. During these live sessions, students can see more lesson plan examples, ask live questions, and participate in group activities to prepare for the lesson plan assignments. We highly recommend attending these live sessions for those who are completely new to teaching English and even to experienced teachers who are studying TESOL methods and lesson planning frameworks for the first time. 95% of those who participated in the workshop passed the lesson plan assignment in less than four weeks!

Excellent program, I definitely recommend it!

I have been teaching for a few years now, I had very little training when I started, so I was looking to get certified while also improving my teaching skills.
This course had everything I was looking for, international recognition, a great program that challenged me and taught me many things that will be useful from now on. It is not only about grammar, but about understanding how people learn, how to best prepare a class depending on your students, how to use materials adequately and so much more.
I enjoyed the process and had great support when I needed it.
I definitely recommend it !

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would use the time I had to complete the program better. I felt like it was a long time so I didn't work too hard at the beginning and then found myself studying intensely to make the deadline! Still, it was a great experience!
