Freakin' awesome

Ah TEFL, a great course an amazing experience and full of so many laughs! I really did not know what to expect when signing up to the course but I was pleasantly surprised. Karen my TEFL tutor was amazing! Great at her job and always had time to help you with any problems, she works super hard and clearly cares so much about her students. All the staff at maximo are super helpful and friendly. Overall i really enjoyed the TEFL course and I learnt so much. Freakin' great course!

What would you improve about this program?
TEFL is a backdated course so towards the end you doing a fair bit of work, I never thought in my life I would ever be doing school work on a saturday. Although the course is backdated realisticly I am not sure if there is any way round this problem. Another minor problem is that there is some days with excercises that seem like filler.

I highly recommend TEFL in Cusco!

TEFL in Cusco was a truly life changing experience. It gave me the practical skills and the confidence to teach English in any country no matter the local language. I found the program extremely thorough, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to change fields, or who just wants an adventure abroad. The week of practical teaching and intensive guidance on creating lesson plans left me feeling more than prepared to teach my own class.

What would you improve about this program?
If I had to change one thing it would be making TEFL a little shorter. As many practical elements that the course had, it also had some filler content that I felt the course could do without. For instance, I would have preferred the last few days to have been strictly about practical teaching techniques and material. I felt that that learning about International exams, as interesting as it may be for some, was somewhat unnecessary for me.

Maximo for Me

I was really nervous when I first arrived, because I had already missed the first day due to flight mix-ups. So I walked in and there were two people in the room, my teacher and fellow student. I got to know them really well. The class was hands on from the beginning. I remember in the first few days I was up giving practice lectures on the board and I taught the macarena to some students at the end of that week (they already knew it, but the students played along). The TEFL course at Maximo was a great experience. All of the staff were extremely supportive and friendly. The night scene is a worthy one as well if you can find the time.

What would you improve about this program?
the food was a bit salty, but my host nanna was so stubborn.

Zero Regrets

I have nothing but great things to say about the TEFL program through Maximo Nivel in Antigua. I should add that my original purpose for going to Antigua was to volunteer. It was after I heard several people rave about the TEFL program at Maximo that I decided to join the bandwagon and my oh my am I glad I did. Maximo's program not only provided excellent resources and support for me to develop my growth as an English teacher, but they left me feeling confident to jump into the international teaching world. They do a good job keeping the class sizes small so each student gets the individual attention he/she needs and there are many opportunities to apply what you've learned to an actual class of ESL students. The entire staff at Maximo in the Antigua location (I can't speak for Peru or Costa Rica since I haven't been there but I'm sure they're great too) treated every single TEFL student like a VIP member. While you're in your TEFL course at Maximo Nivel in Antigua, Guatemala, you'll notice that you've joined an intimate community. I wouldn't change the experience for anything.

Máximo Nivel TEFL Program in Cusco, Peru

I completed the TEFL Certificate program with Máximo Nivel in Cusco, Peru in May of 2012. It was an excellent experience for me, and Máximo is a first class organization. They were accommodating and helpful when I was new in Peru. They organized a home-stay for me and helped me find my own apartment when I was hired as a full time ESL teacher (after the TEFL Course). The TEFL trainer in Cusco is phenomenal, and you'll learn more about teaching ESL from her than you could ever imagine. I 100% recommend this program to anyone who seriously wants to be an ESL teacher. The TEFL Course is grueling, but it's fun and it's definitely worth it. Teaching ESL with Máximo has been one of the best experiences of my life.
