Great Experience

I had a lot of fun meeting all the kids and staff in the program, everybody was likable, and the time we all spent together helped us get really close. In addition to the people, everything we did was a lot of fun. I felt that during the time spent in ESADE business school I learned very valuable information, and the teachers were very nice as well. All the activities we did were a lot of fun, and I got to experience a lot of things that I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience. Some days were very long, with early mornings, walking all day, and not getting back until late, but it was usually for a good experience that I didn't regret. One thing I would mention is that a lot of the tours of churches and museums seemed very repetitive. They were all famous places that were nice to go to, but they were very similar and I felt we could've been doing something else we hadn't done before yet. All in all, I think it was a fantastic experience, and I will definitely be back in the future.

What would you improve about this program?
The one thing I would improve would be the activity planning.

Spanish classes in a great city

I really enjoyed my three weeks in Barcelona. I had been to Spain before but this program really allowed me to improve my Spanish and get to know Barcelona. The program was a good balance between classes and plenty of options to explore the city with the group and with friends. The classes take place at a university and we were treated like special guests and had access to the facilities. The classes were fun and helped me to be more confident about speaking Spanish and I noticed a big improvement bu the time I left. The other students came from different places which was good as not many people knew each other and it was easy to make friends. The residence was very nice and we all got double rooms with air conditioning and a big cinema and games room. My favorite part was that we got to see every part of Barcelona from museums to different areas and the beach. I miss it and will definitely go back.

What would you improve about this program?
Barcelona is a late night city so sometimes I felt the curfew was a little early. They extended the curfew on weekends though which was good.

A summer of disappointment

Going to Barcelona I was very excited to get this "precollege experience" the reality of that advertising quickly diminished. This is not a pre college experience. You are constantly being baby sat by unapproachable and rude staff. They have you running around from the time you get up at 8 am most days to when you get home around 9 pm some days. The senior staff and RA's for the most part don't get along which is a great comic relief but also really shows the maturity of the staff. The classes are far too long, you don't learn very much in the end, and the elective afternoon classes are more useful to use as a nap time. I strongly advise not going on this program if you're over 16 because you have absolutely no freedom and aren't allowed to even leave the residence at any time while you are there. We also spent multiple days at children's amusement parks which were dull and miserable to those who didn't want to spend their precious Barcelona time in a theme park much worse than any in the states. I hope this review saved you from wasting your time and money.

Response from Summerfuel

Hi Sara, Thank you for your feedback on our program in Barcelona at UAB. It is unfortunate that you did not enjoy your program experience as we hope that all of our students enjoy their time with us.

During the program, our New York office worked hard to address your concerns, but additionally, we think you'll be pleased with the massive changes we have made to our new Barcelona program in partnership with ESADE, the top business school in Spain. We are excited to be offering an interactive Spanish and business curriculum which will be much more hands-on than in previous years. Additionally, our new campus is just a ten minute walk from the dormitory, which will allow students more flexibility outside of class and greater familiarity with the Sarria neighborhood. We will reconsider some of our weekend trips to make sure that we are truly offering the best that Barcelona has to offer. Regarding the staff, we have made significant changes and are making every effort to ensure that the program is lead by highly responsive, professional and kind individuals.

Thank you again for taking the time to review Summerfuel!
