Great Experience

This was a great program. I was able to work in a fashion showroom with friendly and welcoming coworkers, and I was able to immersed in Italian culture. My program coordinators Amanda and Antonella did a great job at supporting us and giving us guidance the entire time, and I appreciated all the events they had planned for us to mingle as a community. This was my first time abroad and I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out! I was able to travel outside of the host city often and it fit perfectly with my work schedule

Very happy I did an internship abroad!

I am about to end my experience here in Milan and I’m not ready to leave. I have enjoyed this experience so much and believe I have grown as an individual because of it. The program coordinators Amanda and Antonella are very sweet and we’re always there whenever I needed anything. Having both Amanda and Antonella around was a huge comfort and made me feel safer interning abroad. The events and trips planned we’re a lot of fun and made it much easier than having to plan things on my own. Living in Milan for 8 weeks and working here allowed me to immerse myself in Italian culture and lifestyle. The main negative I do have to comment on is all housing options should be provided with air conditioning as Europe reached record high numbers this summer. Without ac I dreaded going back to my apartment despite the apartment itself being in good condition. When my roommates and I were dealing with our very hot apartment both Amanda and Antonella supported us all the way in trying to solve our problems which I’m very grateful for. Overall, if you can study/intern abroad this is your sign to go for it!

I loved this program!

This experience was definitely one of a kind! I was given great experience for my specific major(s) and felt very at home! Our program supervisors, Amanda and Antonella we’re very helpful, kind and did so much to make us feel comfortable and safe. It was quite confusing in the beginning because we only received a couple of emails right before our departure and many internships were not confirmed until we arrived. I would still highly recommend coming in this program if you are interested in fashion marketing!

Pros
  • Amazing food
  • Gained great design skills
  • Beach is close
Cons
  • Confusing in the beginning (little help)
  • Bus schedule being off all the time
  • Hot

Design Internship Milan

Our program coordinators, Amanda and Antonella, went out of their way to make sure that we enjoyed all of the sights Milan and the surrounding area had to offer. They planned a lot of fun excursions for us (Lake Como, Verona, Armani Silos, etc) and were always happy to answer questions for us if we wanted to travel on our own. I would highly recommend Milan and the surrounding area of Northern Italy to anyone looking to work or even just travel around Europe! There is so much to do and a lot of great variety, you won't get bored.

Amazing time in Milan

Being in Milan this summer was truly one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. I was able to try so many new things in Milan and see so many amazing parts of the city and of Italy because of the events the program planned for us. Each even was a great time and was even better to be surrounded by friends from the program. I would truly recommend this experience to any all students looking to expand their travels and they’re world view. The culture in Italy is vibrant, the people are welcoming and this program ensures you have safe and helpful travels along the way.

Events planned by location coordinators

My location coordinators Amanda and Anotella planned tons of fun events for us all during our internship program. I did not go to all of the events because my sister and I wanted to do some of our own travel on weekends but we attended the following events: a couple of drinks and apertivo nights, the designer outdoor outlet mall, the Armani museum, and Lake Como! They also planned a trip to Verona and my friends in the program that went said it was amazing. We were sad we missed out, but already had travel plans. All of the events were stress-free since Amanda and Anotella managed everything with the events. We just had to show up! I am very satisfied with the events they planned and thought they were a lot of fun and a good way to get to know other kids in the program.

My amazing time in Milan

I just recently got back from a 3 month long internship in Milan. My internship was in fashion business. I had an amazing time and was very satisfied with my experience with GE. I worked in a showroom and got to work with buying, social media, and learn more about the fashion industry. I was there during fashion week and I was even lucky enough to get to experience shows and events during fashion week.
I got a lot of work experience at my internship and useful thing to take forward with me. The placement fit well for me and I enjoyed where I worked. I lived relatively near my work and the commute was easy. GE location coordinators always checked up on us and was very helpful throughout the time there. I really enjoyed my internship and time in Milan.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Put in effort to learn about the culture, people, & language because it will make your experience so much better!

Milan 2019

This internship really helped me grow in my career! I learned so much about the buying and marketing and customer relations. During my time as an intern I was offered a lot of tasks that I feel most employers would not trust interns. My employer made sure that I was learning and being involved throughout everything.Seeing FASHION SHOWS during Milan Fashion Week! were amazing!! As well as understanding that I am a student wanting to travel and see Europe. What other better city than Milan the fashion capital of Europe!! And now my company that I interned at has offered to let me work from them while back home!
Having an international internship makes my resume look so unique. Jobs are now asking less questions and asking 'when can I start?'

What would you improve about this program?
More activities together. Such as day trips. Take a weekend to bring the group especially if they are small like the Fall/Spring to an overnight trip to Rome or Florence. Maybe Have a huge ga†her of all Italy interns to meet more people.

It is not essential to speak Italian in order to participate in the Milan program. The majority of our interns who have attended the programs in Italy did not speak any Italy. While the majority of our placements in Milan are in English, we encourage that interns familiarize themselves with some of the Italian basics they learn in their language classes. Hope this helps!
