Absolute Internship

Absolutely recommend such nice memories and experience. Strongly strengthened my CV and job opportunities. Will do again if possible, a good mix of experiences and summer fun.
I was in Lisbon which was beautiful for the summer, visited and traveled around Europe on the weekends, and learned programming and worked in the week days.
It can be slightly expensive but you can usually receive funding from the school in most competitive US schools, so it would not be a burden.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I never imagined I will have a job in the form of internship in Portugal. So I was only able to build expectation based on my previous jobs at my own country. Yet, the experience changed my whole outlook at work environments. I used to view work ethics only from one shallow lens, and now I see how wide the options can be
Pros
  • Really good companies
  • Good work environment
  • Safe and fun

BEST Experience of my life

Having an internship experience in Lisbon, Portugal was by far the best experience of my life. Not only did the program give me a once in a lifetime experience to gain professional experience internationally, but I was able to become fully immersed in Portugal's beautiful culture. I also made LIFELONG friends and memories that I'll never forget. I think back on how nervous I was before going and laugh at myself because once I got there I never wanted to leave. I constantly think about how grateful I am that I was able to experience that.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers on this program would to not be afraid or nervous, especially when it comes to making friends. I went into the program without knowing anyone and can confidently say I left with life long friends. My group had a reunion in November and I'm still in touch with everyone. Don't be afraid to try new things and put yourself out there because it can be the most beneficial, fulfilling, exciting summer if you full immerse yourself in the culture.
Pros
  • Adventure
  • Personal Growth
  • Lifelong Memories
Cons
  • Want to move to Europe
  • Never went to leave Portugal
  • Miss all the friends you made there

Excellent

Absolute managed to find me a great internship in Lisbon! Additionally, they were very organized with the activities they planned, and if there was a problem they resolved it quickly. This internship helped me on an academic level but also helped me grow as a person. To this day I am still in contact with the friends I made in Lisbon, so it is an experience that is worthwhile. Also, Virginia, was really helpful with certificates and all the paperwork that were needed from my university. Totally recommend!!

Valuable experience and memories for life!

I completed my internship with Absolute in August this year in Lisbon. This was an amazing month- some of my highlights included the weekend trip, organised events and making new friends for life. Morgan our co-ordinator was super helpful and made sure to run plans by us first.
Some points that need improved for the future is more through and frequent communication through the placement process and clearer communication about accommodation conditions/expectations.
Through my marketing internship and time in Lisbon I have gained skills and memories for life and would definitely recommend the experience.

Pros
  • Organised events & weekend trip
  • City orientation
  • Super easy to make friends
Cons
  • More frequent pre-departure communication
  • Delayed placement process
  • Communication about accomodation

Summer in Lisbon

Had a lovely experience interning abroad in Lisbon. I got placed with a great company that met most of my requirements and expectations. It was a very enjoyable 2 months both in and out of the workplace where I got to meet other great students from across the world, create networks and explore the beautiful city of Lisbon. Absolute Internship (AI) also provided me with a lot of assistance through their staff who were constantly available. If you haven't had the experience of working abroad, I highly recommend AI.

Pros
  • Community
  • Tourism
  • Work
Cons
  • Weather

Summer in Lisbon

Having experience on your CV is something that nearly every employer is looking forward when a graduate comes out of uni, but having a year off in between the years at uni for me wasn’t as easy or accessible to do. I decided I needed to get some experience this summer and I knew I wanted to do something aboard! Funnily enough I discovered the Absolute internship program via TiKTok and then proceeded to do the research and apply. I got an interview very quickly that suited me perfectly. Once accepted I told the team what I was looking for in an internship and that’s exactly what I got. I got all the help and information I needed to prepare for interviews with potential host internships. I choose to go to Lisbon this summer for a month and I’m very glad I did. This was probably one of the best summers I have ever had. Not only was my internship interesting and given me ideas in the future about what I would and wouldn’t like to do, but the friends and memories I made out there will last a life time. This is a perfect way to do an internship if you love to travel and make new friends.

Pros
  • Gained experience in the sector of employment I am interested in.
  • Made new friends from all over the place.
  • Explored a new country
Cons
  • Cost of living, your internship is not paid, do I felt like i was spending a lot of money
  • The accommodation was quite poor in reality for a new building
  • N/A

Really good experience

The Lisbon trip was honestly a great experience for me.

The city in general is a great place if you're someone who is worried that they will feel out of place in a foreign country, because it's so diverse and plenty of people speak English and Spanish. It has a rich culture which you feel when you're there whilst also having a good nightlife and buzzing tourist atmosphere. Whether you're a European like me or someone from another continent, Lisbon is a great place to live for a short period of time, with relatively low prices and plenty of things to see if you are a bit of a traveller (plus there's beaches nearby - the temperatures are above 30 degrees celsius in summer).

Absolute Internship (AI) were quick to resolve any issues I had during the 6 weeks I was in Lisbon and always made it clear that they wanted to help improve my experience in any way I could, albeit both their advice on how to make the most of the trip and their communication prior to me coming to Lisbon wasn't great. When I applied for the program around January-time, the person from AI who was finding me a job was at times slow to respond to my emails but did make a clear effort to find me an internship that suited what I wanted to get out of my experience (any job in marketing). I had secured the job by the end of February and AI's payment scheme meant that I only paid the total amount once I'd secured the right internship for me. When I'd arrived in Lisbon, the AI coordinator taking us was very quick at responding to my messages, and I was repeatedly reassured that if there were any issues I had with any aspect of the course, I should let the coordinator know as soon as possible, which was helpful.

As someone who was concerned about whether this company were legit or not (and if I'd just paid a large sum of money to a bunch of scammers), I was relieved to find early on that they were as legit as I'd hoped, and most of the others on the course had found AI through their universities, which was also reassuring. I was satisfied with the quality of AI's care and support, although I know that there were others that were unsatisfied with some responses to their more serious issues (e.g. they really didn't want to continue with their internships but AI couldn't find them another one).

I was the only Brit and European on my course, with the others coming from North America, South East Asia and the Middle East - they were all a great group of people and we did quite a few activities together, which was nice. The social side of this trip was great and although it was a bit lonely to start with, as expected, I'm really good friends with many of the people I met on this course - no need to worry about whether you'll make friends or not!

Overall I would highly recommend the Lisbon trip! As someone who has been on a poorly run internship scheme before, AI definitely offered a professional internship scheme that I'm grateful I went on and was worth the money in my opinion.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be prepared to feel lonely at the start. When you're abroad alone, it's awkward and you're meeting a whole bunch of new people so you'll find it a bit difficult for a couple of weeks maybe - but that's OK! Be open and stay positive, try to make the first move with someone to hang out or add them on social media etc because they probably just want to feel comfortable too.

Can You Say Life Changing! (Lisbon)

Where shall I start?....I have always dreamed of interning abroad so when this opportunity came along I couldn’t refuse. Once I arrived in Lisbon I must say it was quite different than being in America, and took me a little time to get accumulated to what would be my new life for six weeks. However, my coordinator Aiste did a great job at making me feel right at home, along with the other amazing members in my group. I really loved the trips and events that Absoulte Internship organized for us, it allowed us to experience the culture, traditions, and learn the history of Portugal overall. To anyone who is considering interning abroad “DO IT”,your life will never be the same. Remember your dreams are worth investing in, so why not start now!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be open minded to this experience. Don’t allow what you’re accustomed to, to prohibit you from trying new things. Also, be intentional about setting goals you would like to accomplish while being here, it really helps to keep you motivated
