I came into Berklee College of Music having had only a few months of experience using Digital Audio Workstations for electronic music production. Two out of six weeks in, I feel my creative potential expanding in ways that I never imagined. It's easy to let your bias prevent you from believing in your ability to produce satisfactory material as a musician, and this program has given me all the opportunities to realize how limiting and pointless self-doubt is. The class on Ableton Live, specifically, is executed perfectly. I leave every class empowered and inspired to share my musical voice, more confident in my knowledge of a very innovative software. My class on music video production, although outside of my comfort zone, has also pushed me to consider my artistry in new ways, helping me realize that music and video can go well together when one is an independent musician. From the social side of things, I've met such amazing people on this program. Although from different walks of life, speaking different languages, and pursuing different dreams in the industry, we're united by our passion for music, and I will hold these connections dear. Not to mention, the location of the program is simply perfect for a summer of personal transformation; the city of Valencia is rich with culture, visually breathtaking, and has unforgettable night life. Anyone who loves music and is maybe unsure about how to work it into a career path and is willing to throw themselves into a new experience, both culturally and academically, would thrive at this program. I highly recommend.
What would you improve about this program?
I wish the program directors had been more helpful with the acquisition of housing and the total cost of the program; tuition is very high and it does not cover travel, cost of living, or housing. So many expenses have piled up for me and it's disappointing that the school was not able to offer any financial assistance at all, as this can create a disparity in the types of students who are able to enjoy this program.
