USAC has partnered up with Charles University to give students a unique study abroad experience in Prague, Czech Republic. Primary studies at Charles University include Politics, Art and Culture, with all courses taught in English.

Prague is well known as one of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe, and in turn the world. It's central location makes traveling to other parts of Europe quite easy, especially to the neighboring countries of Germany, Austria, Slovakia, or Poland.

The Program director was so incredibly helpful and supportive no matter what problems students had. The planned weekend excursions were lots of fun! Professors are great - we go on lots of field trips to local museums. Celebratory boat cruise to end the trip. More culturally rewarding than other programs. Great night life in Prague!

What would you improve about this program?

I would change the location of the school.

Living in Prague was a wonderful experience as far as viewing historical architecture and living in a large city. The academics through USAC weren't challenging and I felt like the program was geared more towards people that wanted to show up, party a ton with like minded program participants, and go home. There was a distinct lack of immersion in the local culture due to the program specific education and field trips. Participants lived only with fellow program participants (fellow U.S. college students) and went on field trips with only fellow program participants. It was difficult to immerse oneself in other cultures besides your own.

What would you improve about this program?

If housing was with other international students in order to expand the diversity of cultures that a participant is exposed to, the richness of the program would increase greatly.

USAC is a great program that truly cares about the well-being of their students. We had lots of field trips that were both free or super cheap. Housing was also super close to the metro and bus station. The staff was also very friendly and it was obvious that they care about their students. I felt comfortable going to our program director and asking questions. The intensive czech course was useful in introducing us to the czech language and learning the basics.

What would you improve about this program?

The classes aren't technically on the campus of Charles University and it would have been better to actually interact with local czech students.

Choosing to study abroad was easy, choosing where to study was very difficult. I could not be more thrilled that I chose to study in Prague. The magic of the city never ceases to amaze, and the cities beauty will have you walking endlessly through the sprawling city finding new places to cherish at every turn. USAC provided me with the perfect environment to achieve my goals with my studies as well as to explore and immerse myself in a culture and city that would quickly come to feel like home. The many program arranged field trips are a must to attend and are very well organized and always informative and fun. The housing was perfectly located near city transport and within walking distance to downtown, the Charles Bridge, nightlife, and much more! There is so much to see and experience in Prague that it will be difficult to leave, but when the adventure bug hits the location of the Czech Republic (and Europe's awesome transportation) make it easy to travel to any number of amazing new places. Overall, USAC's program at Charles University in Prague is incredible and provided me with the most amazing experience of my life (so far!).

Studying abroad in the Czech Republic through USAC has been one of the greatest experiences in my life. Living in a country that isn't in your comfort zone is one of the most rewarding experiences one can conquer in their life. From the habitual daily routine that you start to develop and the businesses that you frequent life starts to take a different shape from what a person is used to, but in no way is it bad or unrewarding. Although there are some challenges with trying to learn a new language and communicating with people who do not speak much English, one learns to communicate and get what you want through other forms and techniques. There are few things that an individual can do in their life that will forever change their course, but studying abroad is one of those things; and I can think of no better place to study abroad than Prague in the Czech Republic.

Highlights: Starting each day waking up at K17, the nickname for the USAC study abroad students' residences on Krizikova Street #17, is always interesting and promising. Through the USAC Prague program there are currently 3 buildings in which students are housed, all within close proximity to each other. In my program there are around 60 students who come from all over the United States, and even 2 girls from South Korea. USAC does a very good job of helping out all the students with getting situated and comfortable when arriving so that the transition to the study abroad life is as seamless as possible.

Morning: A typical day in my life in Prague usually consists of waking up around 8 in the morning and getting ready for my classes which are usually one or two a day, Monday through Thursday. Although there are many students who just take all of their classes two days a week so that they can travel, I would not recommend it. I typically get out of class in the early afternoon and from then on I have the rest of the day free. After class I take the 15 minute metro ride back to Florenc, the district that I live in, and go to the Pivovarsky Klub for lunch.

The Pivovarsky Klub is a beautiful establishment that has the largest selection of beer available in the Czech Republic, it is also a great place to go for lunch with their lunch specials being around 5 US dollars. Eating out for lunch in Prague is one of the best options for those students who have a tight budget to stick to, mostly all restaurants have some sort of lunch special and you will never walk out hungry or have a much lighter wallet afterwards.

Afternoon: The time after lunch is filled with many different possibilities depending on the time of year, and the weather of the day. During the winter it is a little hard to find a wide variety of activities as it is usually very cold and gets dark early. One of the most popular activities was to find great microbrewery pubs and spend the afternoon trying to practice our Czech with locals and discuss current events.

One thing I should make very clear is that drinking beer in the Czech republic is not seen in even remotely the same way as it is in the United States. Czechs believe that one or two beers a day is great for your health, and they rarely drink to get drunk, but rather for the social aspects of a common thing that brings people together. The warmer months open up a much wider variety of things to do including: parks, pools, exploring, and probably the most common for the locals would be beautiful outdoor beer gardens.

Evening: The evenings in the Czech republic have a wide offer of activities to choose from ranging from concerts & plays to sporting events all of which are very cheap in price and always entertaining. Personally I have enjoyed the Ice Hockey and Football games the most, mainly because of my love of sports. One of the most important things about studying abroad is the people who you share your experiences with, and USAC has gone to great lengths to make sure that the people working for them in Prague are some of the best and they are willing to help you out in what ever way they can. Simply put, living in Prague has been one of the best experiences in my life, and day in and day out I realize that no matter what I might be doing.
