About Program

Study abroad in Rome and discover la dolce vita - the sweet life. Imagine studying art history as you gaze up at the Sistine Chapel, or learning theology just a few blocks from the Vatican. Life in the Eternal City is an experience of a lifetime you don't want to miss!

Students attend classes at the centrally located CEA CAPA Rome Center, or with CEA CAPA’s partners, the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS) and John Cabot University. Courses at both locations are designed for students of all Italian language levels and are complementary, with business, Italian language, and social sciences taught at CEA CAPA; and politics, philosophy, and Economics taught at LUISS.

In addition to study abroad, the CEA CAPA Internships Abroad, offers you a hands-on, pre-professional experience to help you rise above the competition.

Diversity & Inclusion

CEA CAPA provides, in conjunction with Diversity Abroad, Destination Guides which provide resources and tips for Black/African-American students, Latinx students, Asian American students, and all other students of color.
Through our personalized advising, CEA CAPA takes steps to understand the needs of a diversity of student identities like the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition to diversity and identity training, CEA CAPA leadership engage in continuous department level project work to identify and revise policies and practices using the appropriate Justice, Equity, Diversity or Inclusion lens as a frame to reduce bias and barriers that impact students, faculty, and staff. CEA CAPA is intentional in elevating diverse student voices and providing a platform for a broad array of identities to share their experiences abroad. The CEA CAPA World Blog promotes stories and personal experiences from the perspectives of diverse student bloggers and vloggers.
CEA CAPA is willing and able to assist students with learning disabilities and physical disabilities. Students are requested to disclose disabilities through the application health forms as part of their application and in discussion with their application advisor or program manager. The earlier CEA CAPA is made aware of learning or physical disabilities the better we can work with the student, institution, and overseas team to tailor an Individualized Education Program if necessary to support the student.

Impact

CEA CAPA makes a conscious effort to create study abroad experiences that leave a positive impact on host communities. Each location implements a variety of strategies to support the local community and promote sustainability. Examples include:

Use of recycling bins in Study Center locations and in CEA CAPA housing

Signage in CEA CAPA housing urging students to limit water and electricity usage

Students are often given reusable bags and water bottles upon arrival to limit single plastic use

Students are provided with instructions for acquiring transportation passes to promote use of public transportation rather than taxis

Cea

I really enjoyed the program, the professors are passionate about teaching and they create an environment for everyone to feel welcome. The courses are a bit more challenging in the sense that we have to learn a lot within the small amount of time that we have in the program. The staff has been helpful during a difficult situation and overall it was a good experience. There are a lot of activities that are planned within the program which is really helpful when trying to get to know Italian culture.

Pros
  • Short program
  • Caring staff
Cons
  • Challenging classes
  • heavy workload

Loved My Time in Rome

Housing wasn't terrific in this program, my apartment of 8 total girls had large shared bedrooms which was great, but it lacked a usable common space and had an extremely small kitchen with no oven (just a toaster oven), so it always felt cramped and inevitably dirty. But the program was fun, classes were Monday-Thursday, so we had plenty of time to explore Rome itself and Europe as a whole. The workload for each class was also pretty light compared to my home university, which was a great sort of break while I still got the credits I needed to graduate on time. And I loved Rome, being surrounded by so much history in a bigger city that had a slower-paced lifestyle.

Pros
  • Monday-Thursday classes, meaning a 3 day weekend for travel/exploring
Cons
  • Got unlucky in the apartment assigned

Hi Emily. So sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your housing accommodations during your time studying abroad in Rome. European accommodations definitely are an adjustment compared to in the U.S.! It's wonderful that you found your study abroad program fun and had plenty of time to travel. Being surrounded by so much history is such a dream! Glad you got to experience this semester abroad and thanks for sharing your feedback.

A life changing experience!

I would recommend CEA to other students without a doubt! I loved the excursions that were included and it gave me an opportunity to get to know other students very well. The classroom environments were great and I felt like I learned a ton! The school is located in a great place and accessible to the city. The public transportation is a bit unreliable but it’s easy to get places by walking. Rome is a great city and will always have a piece of my heart after studying and interning here. Favorite place in Italy!

Pros
  • Food
  • Culture
  • Traveling
Cons
  • Busy
  • Dirty
  • Public transportation

One of the best experiences of my life!

I have had a great experience with CEA Study Abroad in Rome, Italy. CEA does a great job providing us with activity opportunities and trips in order to immerse ourselves in the Italian and specifically Roman culture. I have also enjoyed the academics here. I have had really good professors in all of my classes. There is also enough flexibility with the program in order to accommodate for additional travel as that is something that was a big drive for me to study abroad. Overall, I would highly recommend this program to future students.

Pros
  • Flexibility/Ease of travel
  • Activities
  • Academics

Rome CEA Program

I can honestly say that my experience studying abroad in Rome was priceless. Everything that I experienced, everything that I saw, and everyone that I met all contributed to an unforgettable time that flew by! I believe that living with an Italian roommate made all the difference. He was 23 years old and he shared similar interests with my other roommates and me. He was a phenomenal tour guide that showed us the best places to eat, drink, hang out, and see. I firmly believe that having my Italian roommate enhanced my experience as I was able to make make the most out of my time in Rome!

Pros
  • Trying new things
  • Experience new cultures
  • Location to travel elsewhere

CEA Rome

I really enjoyed my time with CEA! The program was well organized and CEA kept in contact with us throughout the entire process. The workload was not too heavy which left ample time for students to get all of their work done while being able to travel around Europe or explore Rome. The city itself is full of history with plenty to do and see during the day and night. I was living with other students with whom I got along well, and we lived in a part of the city in which we all felt very safe. I loved traveling and seeing other places in Europe, but every week I was so excited to come back to Rome and it really did begin to feel like home.

Pros
  • Good Nightlife
  • Easily Navigable City
  • 4 Day School Week
Cons
  • Few Class Options

Finding myself away from home

CEA's Rome program allowed me to go further than continuing to gain credits for my college degree. In the past four months, I have found out more about myself than I could have imagined. Leaving my home university to study in a foreign country was challenging, but the opportunities that came with it have been invaluable. I have made plenty of new friends from all over the world, have been inspired to travel more around Europe, and have greatly strengthened my adaptability and communication skills. Academics at CEA leave some to be desired, as the professors are very qualified for their respective studies, but sometimes struggle to connect with students and teach the material effectively due to language barriers and international education differences. Administration and included activities at CEA are by far their strongest advantages. I know by name each department head, and no matter if the problem was something broken in the apartment or roommates issues, CEA was always there to help the best that they could. You can really tell that they care about the student experience because of this, and because of the near-weekly cultural excursions and activities that they have available for students at no extra cost. I'll never forget sun-tanning on the beach of Capri and having traditional pasta in Florence, both of which completely set up by CEA!

Pros
  • Exceptional amount of program-sponsored excursions
  • 24/7 staff support
  • Small classes and program, individual attention common
Cons
  • Limitation of class options
  • Less than desirable experience with professors
  • Roommate personality matching is very limited

Review

My experience here was very fun and I was located in a great area. The housing could have been better, our kitchen was very small for 6 individuals. The schooling was harder and not really clear, but at the same time easier. There were not place to do homework, had to do it in a cafe, were I had to purchase something, which it made it difficult. If there were common rooms, or a library where students could do work this would have been very helpful. CEA did offer many field trips that were free and fun.

Pros
  • Location
  • Fun
  • People
Cons
  • Academics
  • School Support
  • Kitchen Space
