Seamless Journey Abroad!

This is my first trip going abroad to teach and it was very daunting at first. However, going through an agency such as Korean Horizons made it a seamless transition. They break everything down step-by-step which makes it fool proof. Even with the 1,000,000 questions you throw Alistair's way he finds a way to give you quick responses so you are not waiting around. I could not have imagined doing this all on my own and will only use agencies such as KH going forward.
My only negative is with the EPIK program specifically as they ignored my preferences and gave me the complete opposite of what I was looking for. I get they can't accommodate everyone but I was one of the first people accepted for this intake. There are not any other English teachers / expats within an hour of me which is pretty disappointing but at least I'm right next to the beach. Other than that, it was a great experience!

Great experience

I remember weighing the pros and cons of choosing a recruiter or applying directly and honestly I’m glad I chose Korean Horizons. It’s a one man show with Alistair being an expert in the application process and guiding you/keeping you informed at each step as soon as he receives any information in your application. Interview prep was a particular highlight and made the experience much easier. Be on the ball and follow Alistair's advice and your experience will be immensely better. Good luck! You will get there in the end!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I may stress my placement choice a bit more. Although you want to be diplomatic and be open to be placed anywhere I’ve also been placed very rurally where I wanted a medium sized city. At the end of the day this is up to the MOE/POEs however.

Korean Horizons are 10/10

Alistair from Korean Horizons does everything in his power to assist in any way he can. Moving overseas to work is a pretty complicated process, but Alistair breaks it down in a way that is manageable for anyone. It can take a while to find out specific information from the EPIK program, including location, but Alistair feeds you information as it arrives. If you listen and take Alistair's advice, everything will work out. I highly recommend Korean Horizons. I couldn't be happier with my placement. Even though there were stressful moments, I felt comforted by the support of Korean Horizons.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Ideally, there wouldn't be the coronavirus, but Korea is still great, even with precautionary measures in place. Korean Horizons made sure we were prepared as possible.

The Safest Hands to Get You to Korea

Alistair has been nothing short of stellar during the EPIK application process. He waded through the red tape and cultural/time zone challenges with ease and expertise and is incredibly responsive to even the smallest insignificant query.

I always knew exactly what was happening, what the next steps of the procedure are and felt entirely safe relying on him to meet us at the airport on our arrival. I also met some incredible people who also used Korean Horizons who all had the same story as I.

If anyone is considering the EPIK programme, Alistair is your man.

Korean Horizons Recruitment

Had a great experience with Alistair. He was so helpful every step of the way. It was a very stressful process and I was grateful to have support in navigating it. He responded to emails in a timely manner and made appointments for phone calls if I had many questions. He helped with the application process and reviewed my EPIK application before sending it in.
I think the best part was that he met me at the airport. I would recommend this service to anyone looking into teaching abroad. Keep in mind he isn't responsible for placements -- EPIK does that and some places are surprising to say the least. If you are thinking about teaching in Korea go through Korean Horizons, it's the best way to apply.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Learn the language. Being in a rural place it has been a struggle to set up banking and do basic tasks.

An excellent opportunity

I applied for the GOE program with the help of Korean Horizons. The application process was smooth: Alistair kept me updated with regards to what I needed to submit and when, and his assistance was invaluable when it came to the interview: he really helped me to understand the cultural differences between the UK and South Korea, which was the biggest problem for me-- I was not as prepared as I thought I was. Even after arriving in Korea, Alistair has been incredibly helpful. He picked the new guest teachers up at the airport, and provided a hotel room and dinner the night before the contract began. He's also helped us with address labels, queries about Korean culture, and more besides. I'm very happy with my employment in Korea: as well as Korean Horizons, and the other guest teachers, I also have a lot of support within the GOE and my school.

What would you improve about this program?
This is not the fault of Korean Horizons, but... you will not know anything about where you are being placed (level, location, etc) until the orientation. The uncertainty was very stressful.

EPIK through Korean Horizons - couldn’t be better!

I signed up to Korean Horizons to apply for EPIK as it had the best reviews. I was not disappointed.

Alistair, who runs it, is amazingly helpful. He helped me with the application process, getting the correct paperwork, scheduling the interview. He even did a practise interview with me and gave me feedback. He checked in regularly throughout the process and I honestly don’t know if I would have made it here without him.

On arrival in Korea he met us at the airport, paid for us to stay in a lovely hotel, with dinner and breakfast too. We were given gifts by him including a travel mug and the lonely planet Korea guide. Alistair has also checked in a few times in the 2 months I have been here - I cannot recommend Korean Horizons enough!

Amazing support!

I'm so grateful for Korean Horizons for helping with my application process with EPIK. I first heard of Korean Horizons through my OnTESOL course and I'm really thankful I came across it. I don't know if I would have felt as reassured or prepared for the interview without Alistair's help. He goes through potential questions and even does a mock interview with you a few days before your actual interview which I thought was above and beyond what he needed to do. He is responsive, organized, and a wonderful connection to make here in South Korea. Also, when I landed at the airport Alistair met up with me, set up my T-Money card, took me to my hotel, and treated my group to dinner and breakfast. I would definitely recommend going through Korean Horizons if you're trying to apply for a teaching position in South Korea.

Hey Paul - we did some research and it looks like the salary is controlled by the government, and there are pay grades. Appreciate the question, surely others are wondering too
