Be a mentor to a current student: Inspire them, share with them, and further fuel their passion to become healthcare providers!

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Program Impact

Depending on the location of your outreach, you may be seeing on average 150-250 patients each day. In addition to the medical outreach, we will also organize community events, and volunteer our time at partner organizations such as hospitals, orphanages, and local senior centers. Each session differs. Please apply to receive a detailed itinerary for your chosen session.

Our programs run solely on student fees. This enables us to hire local doctors, purchase medications and vitamins, provide donations for orphanages, as well as hire local translators, cooks, drivers. Not only are we helping communities in need by providing health care services (entirely free of charge to all patients), but we are also creating jobs. Most ecolodges that welcome our teams allocate a portion of the hotel fees to generate programs in the local communities!

This Trip Changed My Life

Wow, I loved this trip. I had no idea that 8 days could change my life. I learned so much more than expected. I was introduced to Peruvian culture in Pucalpa while learning a great deal about the common diagnoses of the area. I've mastered taking blood pressure, heart rate, pregnancy tests, pulse, and glucose finger prick tests and I caught up on my Spanish. I learned so much from the doctors, the nurses, the translators, the local people, the hotel staff, and especially my peers. In the short 8 days we were there, we became a family. It was an amazing experience I'll never forget.
I cannot wait to go on my next trip. I want to go everywhere and volunteer!

What would you improve about this program?
The program could benefit the local people more if we made the program longer by continuing to visit the same communities every 6 months or so. We could partner with engineers and do more fundraising to help build large water purifiers. To really make a lasting difference, we would need more translators and doctors to ensure the patients leave educated and informed. Also, if we could bring more doctors on these trips, we could see more patients and have more time with the individuals who need more help.

Incredible Experience With iHelp Globally!

My experience with iHelp Globally was absolutely amazing. As a student looking to learn more about health care, this program gave me incredible hands-on experience with medical skills, patient care, and dealing with language barriers. The clinic days were full of both learning and laughter. It was awesome to be fully immersed in a different culture, to create friendships with locals abroad and other volunteers, and to give medical care to those who need it the most. If I had to describe my experience with iHelp Globally in one word, it would be "rewarding." It was rewarding to know I helped make a difference in the various communities, but it was also rewarding to visit a place that made me appreciate the little things many people take for granted. Overall, I would definitely recommend this program to anyone looking to gain experience with health care, anyone who wants to travel, or anyone who wants to help make a difference in people's lives.

Amazing Peru Experience!

I had a great time with iHelp Globally in Pucallpa, Peru. I went as a pre-nursing student from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo who had never been out of the country before and it was a wonderful trip. Everyone was very welcoming and I made many friends with not only other volunteers but everyone on the trip. It was a great way to give back and learn a lot not only about medicine, but about a different culture and language. Overall I would recommend this trip to anyone looking to explore a beautiful country, learn and help do good work in the world.

What would you improve about this program?
More scholarship opportunities would be helpful to pay for the expenses.

iHelp Globally Inspired Me!

I absolutely loved my experience with iHelp Globally. The program is well organized and the people involved are helpful and very nice. Visiting and volunteering in impoverished communities was eye-opening and humbled me and gave me perspective. I am a pre-medical student at UC Davis and participating in this program gave me medical experience and insight into what healthcare is like in other countries. Overall, it was a great experience where I learned a lot, had experiences that will help my professional career, and had a great time visiting another country as well.

What would you improve about this program?
I wish the program had more scholarships available so more people could afford to go for longer amounts of time.

My Peru Experience

I had the wonderful opportunity to travel overseas to Peru with iHelpGlobally. It was honestly a life changing experience. I had the opportunity to give back to Peruvian community and became completely immersed in their culture. I worked with healthcare professionals and meet new volunteers who had the same purpose as me- giving back and gaining a well rounded experience. Through IHG, I met amazing people, helped the community, and had the experience to travel to a country I had never been to before.
