Internship Shanghai

I did my internship in Shanghai and had a really amazing experience! I made a lot of friends, and a lot of connections. I had a nice appartment, with nice flat mates.
I had a good internship with nice colleagues and a fun working environment.
I have seen a lot of China, and definitly want to see more of the country in the upcoming years.
During my internship I learned a lot about doing business in China, and also developed myself on a personal level while doing this internship.
When I was living in Shanghai I learned to take care of myself, and because I was living in a big city you need to adapt to the city life and don't get to involved with everything that is going on in the city.
I will definitly want to go back to China, and make use of the program that they offer!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Just go with the flow! China is a country with many differences that you will going to love once you are there!

Best school to learn Mandarin with the "Intensive Chinese Program"

I took part in a 6 months "Intensive Chinese Program" at the Hutong school because I really wanted to make a break between my Bachelor and my Master so I decided to face a new challenge and learn Mandarin. I had read that Hutong School was one of the best schools to learn Chinese properly and I can confirm that because the staff is super friendly and the teachers are used to teach international students. What I really appreciated is that they follow the program to teach Chinese (books, vocabulary lists) but they mix it with pleasure: Chinese music, listening to the radio, watching tips videos, etc. So you can find the best way for you to understand the new Chinese characters and to develop some debate about the topics you like. Moreover, I participated to a lot of activities that the school offers so I could practice my Chinese and meet new students (there are always new people arriving and others leaving). We went to KTV (this is actually the funniest activity of Shanghai) then we went to a Chinese restaurant to try Hotpot (typical food), then we visited some districts with the lights show and have some classes of calligraphy (traditional writing art). I think this is an all: learning the culture and immerse in the traditional way of living so you can understand better the language and share moments with locals. I would really recommend this school and this amazing city of Shanghai. If you need more information about my stay at the Hutong School or have some questions about the program I took part in or my experience, feel free to contact me!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I wanted to eat some unfamiliar food like insects so I went to the market with some chinese friends and we bought crickets and cow stomach but this wasn't that difficult for me to eat that as I love chinese food so much (bao zi, noodle, rice, meat, dragon fruit, etc.).

Amazing summer with Hutong school

I took part in the Hutong summer camp in June 2018. It was an amazing experience! We were a group of 5 (from different countries: US, Italy and France) with a Chinese guide 24/7 with us.

The school was located in a very modern building Sanlitun, one of the trendiest district of Beijing and our hotel was 5 minutes away.

Every morning we had 4 hours of chinese class, we were in a group of four with the same level. The teachers were really able to give us personal feedback. With 4 hours of class per day during 2 weeks my level of chinese improved significantly.

Then, every afternoon our guide took us around Bejing to visit the touristic sites such as the Summer Palace, the Forbidden City, the Great Wall... and to discover chinese culture, we had the occasion to try calligraphy, chinese chess, KTV... We really felt like locals! My favorite experience was the tour of the Great Wall, our guide took us on a tour on the side of the easy one were every tourists walk, on a really steep path so we were completely alone and the view was amazing. We also ate chinese dishes at breakfast, lunch and dinner, I admit we sometimes got tired of it and went to Pizza Hut or McDonald's. Our guide was very comprehensive and flexible, he brought us where we wanted to go (even if it wasn't in the program), for example we wanted to see the Olympic Park so he brought us during our free time.

I also spent a 3rd week with Hutong school in Shanghai (but not as part of the summer camp). Hutong school almost created a personal trip for us as they had to plan our different train journey and to help us go to the train station.

I would recommend this program to anyone who's interested by China, its language and its culture. It was my first time in China and it made me want to discover it more.

What would you improve about this program?
Maybe leave a bit of freedom to wander around Sanlitun by ourselves during free time.

Good Experience & Great Friends

After college, I was looking to enhance my resume and continue my studies in Chinese. I found Hutong School. Their staff was very friendly and the teachers were pretty knowledgeable. If there was ever an issue, the staff would respond quickly and try to solve it. The internship was fun and I learned a lot about the different business cultures between the U.S. and China. Hutong School organized various events so that you can learn more about the culture and meet other people in the same program. Overall, I would recommend this program!

What would you improve about this program?
Better organization before the trip. Include housing arrangements, what to expect when coming to China: for example, VPN, phones, etc.

Summer Camp Review

Karen took great care off us. If we wanted to rest or eat something different she would arrange it for us. She got to know us well and we all laughed as we told stories. She was really kind and understanding and a great person to spend two weeks with.
Bishui got along really well with our group of students. He would joke and laugh with us, join in on funny photos. It was nice having someone in the hotel to contact if there was any problems.
Overall the experience and our caretakers were amazing.

What would you improve about this program?
everything was great.

Absolutely Amazing

Had a great time at the 2018 Shanghai summer camp. Made a lot of new friends, had many unforgettable experiences and I can’t wait to come back.
My favourite times during this time were: going to the fake market and bargaining for items, going to the circus, meeting new people, making new friends, learning new words and phrases and being able to apply them in everyday activities, shopping, and having fun in our hotel rooms.
Special thanks to Karen and Bishuai for the guidance and fun!

What would you improve about this program?
I was fine with everything, but some of the other students couldn’t stand the amount of walking required.

Summer Mandarin Language Immersion

My 15 year old daughter loved this program! She wanted to take Mandarin as her language at school, so she participated in this program to get a jump start. Robert was very helpful with explaining the processes and accommodations. He helped secure all her transportation and eased my concerns (as a parent allowing her child to fly to the other side of the world on her own for the first time!). They individualized her language program to fit her needs and planned age appropriate activities for her and the group. I definitely recommend this program for anyone wanting to experience China!

BusIT in China

It was a really nice. First thing first the guides are great. They spoke very good english and help us in anyway they could. Everywhere we went there were local guide with us. Thanks to them we could explore China easily.

We had many activities to do like going to the KTV, Forbidden City, Temple, etc. Aside from the activities we also got free time for ourself so we could explore the city on our own way.

I experienced many things in China like the traffic, food, language, culture, etc. I have become more independent after I went to China.

All in all I would recommend this program.

What would you improve about this program?
The wifi didn't work really well. I really like to do the project, but because the lack of good wifi we couldn't do it. The bed was also a bit too hard for me to sleep.

Information Technology Summer Camp in Shanghai, China

I really enjoyed this summer camp. It wasn't only workshops and company visits, but also fun activities. We could even ask what we wanted as activity. Having some free time in the evening is also nice to have. Our guide was very nice and helpful, I couldn't wish for a better guide. I'm very lucky that I got the chance to get to know China, it's a great country! I would suggest this summer camp to everybody!

What would you improve about this program?
The second hostel was really bad. Be more careful when choosing a hostel, or add the option to book hotel.
