LGBTQIA+ Support

Through our personalized advising, CEA CAPA takes steps to understand the needs of a diversity of student identities like the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition to diversity and identity training, CEA CAPA leadership engage in continuous department level project work to identify and revise policies and practices using the appropriate Justice, Equity, Diversity or Inclusion lens as a frame to reduce bias and barriers that impact students, faculty, and staff. CEA CAPA is intentional in elevating diverse student voices and providing a platform for a broad array of identities to share their experiences abroad. The CEA CAPA World Blog promotes stories and personal experiences from the perspectives of diverse student bloggers and vloggers.

Best decision of my life

I was incredibly nervous to study abroad, but I'm so glad I did. CEA made sure we adjusted well to the environment of Prague. They gave us enough time to settle in prior to classes beginning, which I am very grateful for. While abroad, CEA did whatever they could to make sure we were comfortable. If we ever were worried about anything or had any questions, they were quick to help. Anything from academics to the city to just being abroad in general--CEA ensured we all felt secure. The faculty is al so nice!

Best semester ever!

I had such a great time in Prague with CEA. The staff there was helpful, kind, and supportive. They were knowledgeable in many different areas and made the study abroad experience one that was well rounded and fun! They organized great activities to get us engaged with other students and the culture. We went to the Museum of Communism and had deep conversations about the lasting effects of that on the country in addition to other places right outside of Prague, like Karlsteijn castle and the Terezin ghetto/concentration camp. They provided the opportunities to learn about the different cultures within Prague and it was awesome. Prague itself is also a wonderful city to study abroad in because of it's beauty and central location for other travelling. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking to study abroad!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
When I travelled to Budapest, Hungary, I had an incredible local meal it was a meat plate with croquettes, pickled cabbage, rice, and a selection of delicious meats. The most unfamiliar was probably goose liver but don't knock it until you try it (it was pretty good though!)

The Best 4 Months of My Life

My semester in Prague with CEA was easily the best four months in my life. I got to learn so much about the Czech culture while traveling around Europe, and it was an absolute fairytale. As far as the program goes, there is always something to do: planned activities, weekend excursions, a cool iMove program, monthly brunches, etc. My roommates and I got really close with CEA staff as a result of frequently attending these fun and free (included in program cost) events. Additionally, the city of Prague is busy & something is always happening. The five of us lived in the cool neighborhood of Vinohrady in a beautiful, spacious apartment amongst local Czechs. Lastly, the academics were pretty good. Anglo-American University was pretty easy in comparison to my large state school at home, so I was glad I wasn’t taking many major-related courses as I am not sure if they would go in as great of depth at AAU as they do in the states. The university is also very small and consists of 1/4 study abroad/exchange students, so it’s an interesting dynamic sometimes between exchange students and full-time students. Overall, it is a nice place close to the center of the city, and it offered courses that easily transferred back to my university.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
A lot of students who study abroad go to cities all of Europe. I definitely recommend that you go see some popular cities, but if you study abroad in Prague, make sure to check out smaller cities/countries in Central Europe as well. 1) they are typically cheaper. 2) they are less touristy. 3) it is so cool to go to countries you might not go to later in life for any reason (ex. Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, etc.)

You Have to Go

I loved every minute of my time abroad in Prague. I could not be more grateful to have CEA there to help with everything. They made the transition extremely easy and fun. Studying abroad is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I highly suggest CEA and Prague. I highly suggest that everyone goes abroad because of the unique cultural experience you will get as a student. CEA made sure that we had everything we needed before leaving to go abroad. They were extremely helpful when it came to applying for a student visa as well. Everything that needs to be completed beforehand was made easy because of CEA and their involvement in ensuring students have a successful time abroad. Once we got abroad, CEA was also ver attentive to all students needs and ensuring they had a smooth transition. Our apartment was comfortable and I had an overall great semester studying with CEA.

What would you improve about this program?
We struggled with housing and our heater-- besides that everything was great!

Best Decision I Ever Made

Studying abroad in Prague through CEA was the best thing I ever did. Not only was my experience so amazing because of the city itself, but CEA made everything so easy and smooth. Every staff member is always so kind and willing to help you with whatever you need. Whether it was sending me syllabi for specific classes so I could get courses approved at my home college or responding quickly to questions I had, CEA is always on top of it. They also make the whole package worth it because they have amazing housing around Prague and offer many cultural activities and excursions you can attend for free! They even have several free activities you can do on a weekly basis, like yoga, personal training, and rock climbing. The school they partner with has also added to my study abroad experience because I only have classes 3 days a week, which is typical, so I have time to travel and explore Prague, plus I also get to meet students from all over the world! I very much recommend this program to anyone who is interested in studying abroad.

CEA Prague was an amazing experience!

This past Spring, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Prague, Czech Republic. At my school, Prague is not a very popular destination to go abroad to. However, I think that Prague is a beautiful city, and has just as much, if not more, to offer than many well-known abroad destinations such as Florence or Barcelona. When I arrived on my first day in Prague, I was greeted by bright, colorful buildings and cobblestone lining every street in town. The city is the perfect size where you can walk anywhere that you need to go, or can take the easily accessible public transportation. Most days, I preferred to walk to class or meals so that I could take in all of the character that this city offered in the short amount of time that I lived there.
By now you probably understand how beautiful Prague is, but it is also such a cool city with SO many cool things to do. You can go to the Prague castle, walk along the Charles Bridge, wander throughout Old Town and try a tredelnik (trust me, you won't be able to have "just one"), view the astronomical clock, go shopping at Wenceslas Square, climb up Petrin Hill, or pose in front of the John Lennon Wall. One thing that Americans often do not talk about is how good the food is in Prague. I was very impressed when I found out how delicious all of the restaurants were and how cosmopolitan the restaurant choices were. Some of my personal favorites were Meduzzy, Cantina, Noi, Zebra, and Bejzment. I could go on and on with recommendations of things to do in Prague and places to eat, but these are just my top few!
Overall, Prague was a great place to study abroad. If you are interested in traveling on the weekends, Prague is a perfect home base to do so. The airport is easily accessible via the metro/tram, or you could take a 25 minute Uber for under $20. Flights are direct and affordable out of the Prague airport, and the airport is super easy to navigate. Additionally, CEA makes abroad so much easier. They are there with you every step of the way and are always available for questions. The staff is very knowledgeable and cares about its students both before going abroad, and once on-site. If I could go back, I would, so make the most of your time in Prague!!

Abroad in Prague

Studying abroad in Prague through CEA was an amazing experience that I highly recommend. I felt safe throughout the city, especially at my university. My favorite times were experiencing day-to-day life, doing homework, exploring cafes, restaurants, and shops. I made friendships that have carried over back to the States and memories with these friends that I will forever hold dear to me. Traveling from Prague is easy as it is so centrally located and traveling most weekends allowed me to explore all over Europe.

What would you improve about this program?
I highly recommend CEA and don't see any improvements with it.
