About Program

Cobblestone streets, ancient bridges, and a hilltop castle help lend the City of a Hundred Spires its reputation as one of the world’s most beautiful, brimming with architecture from every period and style in its millennial history.

Prague is unique in Europe, having shed its Communist past and brimming with carefully preserved monuments from every period and style in its millennial history. There’s plenty of quirky, too, like the Zizkov Tower adorned with climbing babies, and the distinctly nontraditional Dancing House.

Courses are available in English and Czech.

January in Prague Czech Republic

My experience was unique due to the challenges covid posed with going abroad and at the time of my group arriving In January 2022 Prague had just finished another lockdown and at this point they were opening most businesses again. It was a wonderful experience because of the support of the staff. I think that Prague might be a nicer visit in the spring or summer but if you don’t mind the cold too much and pack warm, there is still plenty to do. The staff also had planned some well thought out day trips for us. There is not much traveling you can do since the program I did was only 3 weeks and covid makes it difficult to cross borders now without recent negative test results but getting to Prague itself wasn’t so hard. The day trips that we went on were often outside for the majority of the day in the cold so I recommend really packing lots of layers and being prepared to walk outside in cold, rainy, or snowy weather for a couple of hours at a time. I will say that the trips are very interesting and will keep you pretty engaged the whole time.

Pros
  • Very nice accommodations
  • Interesting culture and activities
  • Very safe city
Cons
  • Pack layers- more than you think
  • Not many excursions
  • Lack of access to travel during program because of length and covid

Great Program

I had a great time in the spring because of both Prague and the CIEE program. One of my favorite memories was the final party that CIEE threw for all of us at the end of the program. They really wanted all of us to have a great time and they ensured that we did by listening to everyones wants and needs for the semester and trying their hardest help. I felt that the housing of the program was awesome, I got to meet some of my closest friends in my building and had a great time being so close to all of them!

Pros
  • Great City
  • Great program
  • Easy travel
Cons
  • Hard to get the visa
  • Can be expensive to travel to some parts of Europe (small airport)

CIEE Summer Psychology in Prague

In summer 2022 I got the opportunity to study abroad in Prague, CZ through CIEE. I took two courses there; a social psychology course and an intro Czech language course. Everything about the program was seamless; CIEE employees greeted us at the airport, provided housing, had on-site orientation, and planned excursions and activities for everyone in the program. Every employee of CIEE that I interacted with was kind and went out of their way to make sure our needs were met. I would recommend CIEE to everyone!

Pros
  • Affordable City
  • Easy to Get Around
  • Great Food Options
Cons
  • Hilly

Central European Studies with CIEE

I cannot recommend the Prague CIEE program enough. The people in our program went from strangers to incredible friends in a few short months because of the intimate program CIEE created. The housing was in a safe, practical, and beautiful neighborhood that I pitched myself I got to live in every day. When any of us had a problem, every single person at CIEE was willing to drop anything to help us which took all the worry of directions, translating, and overall stress off of you as the student. CIEE staff made us feel at home in a foreign place and created an experience that absolutely changed my life.

Pros
  • Easy Transportation
  • Breathtaking artchitecture and history
  • Amazing nightlife
Cons
  • Heavy foods
  • Gets cold fast

Amazing summer of Czech culture

CIEE Prague was an amazing experience. I hadn't traveled outside of North America before so I was nervous, but with CIEE Prague, they showed me how this city was the perfect place to start with how easy the metro is to go anywhere, and the community you're surrounded by. They have the best CIEE staff! You meet great friends to adventure with. The CIEE staff also have some pretty sweet recommendations for sunset views, and activities. My favorite experiences were getting to be a part of this city and culture, learn some of the language, and travel some too. My roommate and I took a day trip to Karlovy Vary, a city in Czech Republic that was amazing! It overall has been the best opportunity of college.

Pros
  • learning the history of Prague, and it's beauty
  • meeting new friends in the program
  • experiencing a new culture

There were opportunities for everyone from various backgrounds. I felt as I could go out with friends one night and explore the city in unique day excursions the next. Being surrounded by so much history and people who actively wanted to explore provided the perfect mixture of comfortability and adventure. I loved Prague so much and the whole program was very rewarding and served as a foundation of growth for myself.

Pros
  • adventure/new experiences
  • beautiful city
  • new friends and meet new people
Cons
  • hot with no A/C
  • language barrier at times (was not very challenging to deal with overall)

CIEE Prague

CIEE Prague was a great experience! The staff are attentive to student needs and go above and beyond. The academics are appropriately challenging. I had a great time, it was the best CIEE Summer Program I have done and I attended three. It was a small program size so we really got to know our fellow classmates, professors, and program leaders. I enjoyed our trip to the Pilsen Pilsner Brewery, as well as the private tram tour. The program even came with an unlimited tram pass for the duration of our stay, which was extremely useful!

Pros
  • Underground Alternative Clubs
  • Safe City
  • Friendly People

I went into this program not knowing anyone, and I was quiet nervous about it. However, this was one of the most memorable and life changing experiences I could have ever chosen to do. You will never get bored, and traveling will open your horizons while expanding your perspective on life and cultures.

Pros
  • Self-growth
  • Program staff
  • Activities
Cons
  • Ability to meet or communicate with locals
  • Quiet hrs @ 10 PM
