About Program

Cobblestone streets, ancient bridges, and a hilltop castle help lend the City of a Hundred Spires its reputation as one of the world’s most beautiful, brimming with architecture from every period and style in its millennial history.

Prague is unique in Europe, having shed its Communist past and brimming with carefully preserved monuments from every period and style in its millennial history. There’s plenty of quirky, too, like the Zizkov Tower adorned with climbing babies, and the distinctly nontraditional Dancing House.

Courses are available in English and Czech.

CIEE Prague Internship

I studied abroad in Prague the summer of 2022. I was a bit nervous going into the experience, but it has been one of the best things I have done for myself. I have enjoyed meeting people from all around the United States and living in a different country has taught me endless things about the world that I otherwise would not have known. The apartment that I lived in was very nice and had all the necessary appliances. The CIEE staff have been some of the nicest people I've met and always took the time to answer my endless questions about the culture of the Czech Republic. The other students were always fun and it was great getting to know everyone. My internship was wonderful and everybody was wanting to help when I asked. The class that I took alongside was helpful and useful. The city of Prague itself is absolutely beautiful and the public transportation is very useful and easy to get around to see all the different spots. Overall I thought that the experience has helped me grow a lot as an individual and I hope that I have the pleasure of visiting Prague again sometime very soon.

Pros
  • Amazing food
  • Beautiful City
  • So many activities
Cons
  • Quiet hours start at 10pm all days of the week

Prague Study Abroad

This was one of the greatest experiences in my whole life. I studied abroad to fulfill requirements for my International Business minor and took a chance to go against the usual Italy or Spain, and went to the Czech Republic. The program and staff were wonderful, I felt that they wanted us to experience all that we could and they supported us the entire program. I took classes only through CIEE because of how my requirements and schedule turned out, but the opportunity to take classes at Charles University is not something that should be passed on. I could not asked for a better time there and Prague is such a beautiful and historical city, and I never felt unsafe there. It was the best.

Pros
  • The program staff
  • The places to explore
  • Self-growth
Cons
  • Not being able to easily meet locals

CIEE Prague

Prague is an amazing city and CIEE Prague provided helpful support, fantastic housing, and a wealth of fun activities to help us explore everything on offer. The main con was that it was difficult to meet Czech people, but if you're adventurous and love exploring, Prague is a wonderful place to do it! CIEE allows participants to forge their own way in the city while also providing a homebase with helpful staff and optional activities to participate in. The classes are definitely geared towards American study abroad students, but the content is all super fun and interesting.

Pros
  • Art and Architecture
  • Activities (Restaurants, Nightlife, Events)
  • Flexibility
Cons
  • Ability to meet Czech people
  • Academics not very rigorous
  • No spring break

Prague, a great place to study

I absolutely loved my class in Prague. The city is full of history and extremely easy to walk and travel in. The course was engaging itself, and I especially loved the interactions I had with the professor. We also went to a lot of museums as part of the class, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I learned a lot being in the class, and the professor enjoyed having me because I added a lot of insight on the specific psychoanalytic topic we were discussion from a music perspective, since we only covered Visual Art, Creative Art, and Film.

What was your funniest moment?
So we actually took a weekend trip to Budapest during the free weekend, and I was on my own bus from the rest of the group there and back. And I missed the bus at 11:50 at night! So I then had to spend the night in a gas station until I took the first bus back the next day.

Highly Recommend CIEE Prague

I loved CIEE Prague! The staff was nice and very helpful. The classes were interesting and I enjoyed my Professors. I was hesitant about going abroad with a study abroad company rather than directly through a school, but it was actually a great experience. I learned a lot and the program was well-organized. The staff responds well to suggestions from students and has put in place a more flexible attendance policy and implemented more breaks for travelling. This has helped give me more freedom to enjoy being in Europe while I am here.

What would you improve about this program?
One thing that I would have liked is more exposure to local people, as well as international students. The program is almost entirely American students. Which was fun -- I still met lots of new people. I just wanted to meet more people my age from other countries.

First time abroad experience

I enjoyed being in the CIEE program to expand my learning for my journalism career. I liked the activities we got to participate in, made a few friends, and learned something new in my news media, globalization, and journalism course. I would recommend this program to high school and college students for the adventure.

I also enjoyed being in a new city that was a way from home. Prague is full of life, the architecture is beautiful, the weather is really hot, and the night life is wonderful. I recommend the Arepas de Lyna place to eat fresh Venezuelan food. They are so sweet, their customer service is phenomenal, and it was close to my apartment. Definitely a ten out of ten and five star restaurant. I hope if you have the chance to come to Prague, to fully grasp the European culture and lifestyle.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Public transportation was difficult for me because I usually drive everywhere, but I got the hang of it.

Summer in Prague

This trip completely altered the plans I had for myself. I gained so much knowledge about complex topics through this experience. For me, I had been so accustomed to learning things from one perspective in a classroom environment. But it's so much different to actually visit these sites and see where Nazis had occupied. I was taking the Rise and Fall of Central European Totalitarianism and it was amazing to see the effects that specific government structures has made on the country-- the types of architecture, the outward attitudes of the people of the Czech Republic, etc..
I had been so set on following a plan before going on this trip and that has completely changed. I want to have more diverse opportunities similar to the ones I had in Prague! As for a tip, check out a introductory language resource before arrival. Not as many speak English as I had expected and I wish I had prepared a little more.

Amazing experience

CIEE provided me with the tools to travel to amazing places, learn new things, and make friends for life. The classes were insightful and taught me a lot about Central European and the history of Czech Republic. The professors and administrators were extremely helpful and excited to teach and make my experience the best they could. My Czech buddy and my roommates made life in Prague so fun and exciting.
