TEFL level 3 course

I wanted to follow a course that I could complete entirely online, as it is easier to combine with full-time working. That way, I could choose for myself when I would dedicate time for the course.
A negative aspect of this online course, is that is doesn't actually teach you how to stand in front of a classroom and how to really interact with students, but it does give you the right mindset and idea of what it's like. The course wasn't difficult at all and the tests were open-book. I could review my notes any time.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I got quite stressed out about the assignments, as those were the only things that would define if I would qualify for the course or not. But the assignment wordings were very clear and I knew what was expected of me in order to pass.
Pros
  • Excellent customer service
  • Clear and plain website, course content and language
  • Quite easy-level and not to difficult to achieve
Cons
  • Doesn't actually prepare you to stand in front of a classroom
  • No real hands-on experience

Great experience

After finishing the Level 3 TEFL certification, I feel much more confident to become an English teacher. I felt that the course was well rounded and interactive. The assignments allowed me to put what I learned into real world scenarios which helped me a ton. The teachers are also incredibly easy to follow and everything was marked very quickly. I would have benefited further with more application assignments, to further my confidence for the classroom. However overall I would recommend this program!

What would you improve about this program?
One thing I would improve about the program is adding more chances to apply the material, beyond quizzes. The assignments did a great job of this, but I still felt that I needed more situations in order to feel further prepared to get into the classroom.
Pros
  • Interactive
  • Easy to follow
  • Group discussions with peers
Cons
  • Time limited (could be a pro)
  • Needs more real life assignments scenarios

Excellent

Excellent course to work at your own pace. I received support when needed. I learnt the structure of classes and how to aim content at the right age. If anyone is considering this course as entry level to being an English teacher. There is no practical part to the course so you don’t get experience teaching. It would be good to see some example classes in action to get more of an idea of how to interact with the students and how fast the hour class can go. Altogether a good course to take. Try it today!

Get TEFL qualified

Its been 14 years since I last studied and I was concerned that I may find the course difficult and uninteresting but to my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed it. As I progressed through the course I found it explained the learning material so well and it had questions along the way that it equipped me for assignments. I passed my assignments the first time. Whoohoo!!! Because the material was fun to learn, I cannot wait to start teaching. I would really recommend doing your TEFL course through The TEFL Academy.

Pros
  • Easy to follow and understand course material
  • Self- paced learning
  • No age limit
Cons
  • Not really interactive with other students because its online and self paced learning

An amazing experience

The money spent on the programme is very much worth it. From the original help with my questions before starting the programme to the help and support throughout the programme, the TEFL team are incredibly helpful. Although the course is somewhat challenging, it is doable for anyone even with little knowledge of teaching. The course gives you all the information you would need for teaching a class. It provided good feedback that is applicable for teaching in the real world and gives you updates of opportunities that you could do.

Pros
  • Learnt how to write lessons plans
  • Found out about the process of teaching
  • Gave you all the information needed
Cons
  • Not given a firm finish date so had to buy an extension
  • Had to go over information that I already knew from A-levels

Navigation

The navigation of the website was excellent, I didn't struggle to find certain categories or my units. As I was learning, I got so excited to start my lessons. I like that there are videos under some of the topics to get a visual perspective of what is being explained. The channels of communications was so helpful and turnaround time on getting a response was impeccable. The turnaround of receiving marks and feedback on the assignments also made a huge difference to continue with completing units.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The feedback given on assignments
Pros
  • It is accurate and timeous
  • You can use the feedback for improvement
  • It is direct
Cons
  • It's stating the answer, not allowing you to correct yourself

Great Learning Experience

I enjoyed the course far more than I expected due to the engaging and varied presentation of material online and the many interesting aspects to learning and teaching that I was unaware of. The course construct was logical and easy to follow and the content felt well-rounded and sufficiently detailed without being overwhelming. I found the quizzes and in particular the assignments appropriately challenging and learnt a lot from completing them. The turn around time and feedback on assignments was professional, informative and felt personalized.

What would you improve about this program?
Include a whole unit on the basics of English grammar. Even as a native English speaker I realized I either didn’t know or had forgotten grammar. How can you teach it if you don’t understand it!
Pros
  • Easy to follow
  • Logical progression of subject matter
  • Value for money
Cons
  • Some areas e.g. specimen answers need review for typos and small errors and inconsistencies.
  • Without some element of real person teaching interaction the course only can take you so far
  • The course could have included more content within the 120 hour study period mentioned

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Submitting assignments during The TEFL Academy Level 3 program was initially nerve-racking due to the weight placed on each task in shaping my understanding of effective language teaching. The fear of not meeting the standards or overlooking crucial details added a layer of pressure. However, the program's structure played a pivotal role in alleviating these anxieties.

The provision of two submission opportunities was a game-changer. Knowing I had a second chance allowed me to approach the initial submission as a learning experience. The feedback received on the first attempt served as a valuable guide, pinpointing areas for improvement and offering constructive suggestions.

Additionally, the option to reach out to tutors for clarification or assistance was a reassuring safety net. Knowing that expert support was available helped me navigate challenges and better comprehend the material. Over time, this accessibility fostered a sense of confidence, turning the assignment submissions into opportunities for growth rather than sources of anxiety.

In overcoming the initial nervousness, I learned to view assignments as stepping stones in my TEFL journey. The supportive feedback and guidance the program provided refined my teaching skills and transformed the submission process into a constructive dialogue aimed at continuous improvement.
Pros
  • Comprehensive Curriculum
  • Interactive Online Learning Environment
